I agree, you only have to listen to FBN then CoS and hear the development of sounds and technique in a couple albums. I'm a big Stewart Copeland fan I think his style and composition is amazing, he is very musical. It was never a surprise to me when Neil mentions him as an inspiration.

^That doesn't surprise me. Copeland played with traditional grip as opposed to Neil's matched grip. Neil swtiched it up later and played both ways but that was more because of Freddie Gruber's influence than Stewart's. Stewart was probably one of the best traditional grip drummers in rock though(over all).

Ditto. I love his film scores, some of which he rearranged and released along with original material on his 1988 solo album The Equalizer & Other Cliff Hangers.

For me only two albums stay with me 2112 and A FAREWELL TO THE KINGS. The rest are good but find doesn,t hold my attention like those two records.I rate them
 out of five.

Did you ever see the episode of Storage Wars where Barry Weiss goes to Stewart's home to ask a rather opportunistic favor of him? Unfortunately, the clip isn't on YouTube, and AETV wants you to register to watch it, but Barry "scores" a vintage Ludwig kit from a storage locker and takes it to Stewart, who immediately talks him out of the Zildjian ride cymbal for $40. After that, Barry asks Stew to sign AND date each piece of hardware so he can flip the kit! |

One year later.........Some details now coming out. Such a sad situation he could not spend all the time with his family that he yearned for.
"......Lee wasn’t surprised. “Knowing Neil the way I do,” he says, “and knowing that he knew how much time he had left, I think it was a natural thing for him to review the work of his life. Got the album a farewell to the kings album at christmas when it came out all i ever heard before was IN THE MOOD on a ktel album called canada gold, so they are more or less my introduction to prog rock, then i brought 2112 the rest is history.A legendary band from my neck of the woods.

Yea as private as he was, he was in the "public eye" you can say as he walked around the beach community. Can you imagine the kids coming home and telling mommy and daddy that Olivia's dad read to the class....."How was your day dear?", "Great mommy, Olivia's dad read to us again!"...."Oh nice what did he read to you?", "He told us story about the Temples of Syrinx, Jacobs Ladder and Cygnus X-1 and this really neat place called Xanadu!" ..... |

Wow, how did I miss this anniversary. Yesterday last year we lost the great Neil Peart. Crazy that it's been a whole year already. Wow.
Anyway, yeah big fan of Rick's videos. I just watched one he did on the cars "just what I needed." Of course he doesn't focus just on prog but it's good he does mention Yes, Rush, etc from time to time.
