A most excellent introduction of great harmonies and a classic progressive rock album featuring newest member steve howe ,i personally think this should be a great introduction to yes not that the earlier albums e.g time and a word weren,t great but the feel to listeners like myself felt they were lacking in cohesion,
so this album had the stuff i was looking for the standout opener YOURS IS NO DISGRACE is the band firing on all jets the radio friendly I SEEN ALL GOOD PEOPLE
put yes on the airwaves,but i heard it so many times it no longer has the power that it probably had when the song came out. The hidden treasure for me is STARSHIP TROOPER a classic concert staple. Also PERPETUAL CHANGE the closing track is a hint of things to come.

Possibly the first prog album I ever heard. My dad had it in his collection back in the old days based just on the word of some young hippy guy who apparently died of a drug overdose. Anyway, I eventually got into it and while it's not at the very top of my Yes list it's certainly an essential album for prog fans. As a kid I thought the album cover was a bit weird(although not as weird as the early Santana album covers).

It's the album I would recommend first to anyone who isn't familiar with Yes. Much more accessible than CTTE, Tales or Relayer.

The first and last tracks on each side are all excellent, A Venture gets a bad press but I quite like it, the only one that doesn't do much for me is The Clap.

It's where Yes really started becoming Yes IMHO. Fantastic record. Catchy, melodic, seeds of progressive rock and what was to come.

I love Tony Kaye's chunky organ sound , something that was lost forever after this album. The definitive versions of Yours Is No Disgrace and Perpetual Change are on this album but the rest I can happily pass on , even Starship Trooper. Not anywhere near a 5 star album in my opinion. So many Yes 'fanboys' on this site lol.

Speaking of your favorite band(Wink )I have recently heard people say that "I've seen all good people" is Yes's tribute to the Beatles in that they were trying to sound like them. I don't really hear any Beatles influence other than the "give peace a chance" chant in the middle which is John Lennon and so is the "instant karma" reference.

They are my fav band.....I've never heard that before, I'm sure that chant is what is triggering someone to say that. I would not doubt it, I think Jon mentioned the Beatles in his Big Interview with Dan Rather. 
I have said before, had other artists recorded some of their songs I might have interest, but I think their musical playing was bad if not very bad in some cases, which is the case for pop music so not surprised.

Don't want to hijack this thread, like my RS Top 500 has now turned into why Rap/Hip Hop is sooooooo awesome!!! LOL

Let's not forget Bruford's always snappy drumming on Yes' first landmark album with Howe. As stated before, a real coming-of-age event in the band's history.

TYA was my introduction to full-blown Prog in 1972. I dove in head first and never looked back. My favorite band overall.

It was the first one I heard by them...bought it when it came out then went back and bought the earlier ones.....Starship Trooper is one of my favorite Yes tracks  right up there with the later ones from Fragile and CTTE.
One does nothing yet nothing is left undone.

All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

Good album. Not entirely my taste though. There's something very polished about Yes, at least to my ears.
