Just to note that Mark-Almond should not be confused with Marc Almond, but indeed it's clear enough that Pedro is talking about Mark-Almond.

Pedro, I don't get what you mean so sorry if I'm misunderstanding (my brain is scarily bad these days). Are you not understanding the rules for participation in the series (each one has its own set of rules listed in the original post)? Basically the idea is that we post youtube vids of music, others will listen to and perhaps comment on those (commenting is optional), and then list and vote for our three favourites.

I love the interactive nature of this series that gets us listening to each other's choices. It becomes something of a communal listening experience.

There is some more nice music proposed here. I especially like the easy-going atmospheric jazz piece of Less McCann, Soaring pt. 2, and the great raw and at the same time sophisticated rock sound of Mary's Danish. With Urban Sax I first had the impression it remained a bit too much (to my liking) in a kind of oriental ambient sphere but then it slips into a more Steve Reich kind of minimalism, which is very beautiful...

And, since we have a bit more time, I don't want to withhold you Einstürzende Neubauten, with Ein seltener Vogel (A Rare Bird - English lyrics can be found here):

Mary's Danish - "Sister Shade"

The band name got me curious. Don't think I have ever heard of this band, but really I like what I hear. There's a cool sound, and the guitar work is interesting. Alas, when we get to the "comparza" section, I think it kind of falls apart - it seems rather out of place. Fortunately, this section is very short, and we get a sort of break when the vocals set in again.

Einstürzende Neubauten - "Ein seltener Vogel"

This I aldready knew because I have that album on CD. So I don't think I would be voting for it if it is nominated. But it's of course a very interesting piece of music. I have always liked the idea of making music with everything that has sound, so Einstürzende Neubauten is of course very much to my liking.

Merry Christmas Eve....finally had a chance to catch up with some additions, and here are my thoughts on them.  I have to say I am going to have a very hard time deciding, if the participants choose my favourites so far.....Yikes!

Lorenzo:  Bruce Springsteen “New York City Serenade”  Aware these two are out of competition, but wanted to listen.  This first one begins with piano strums on the piano strings ala Keith Emerson  (or at least it sounds like it), then goes into a very dramatic piano solo, which settles into some sweet notes and is joined by guitar.  Bruce softly begins singing about a couple who are there seeking a good time, with some hand percussion, all the while supported by the piano and guitar.  A lovely vignette, of course Springsteen is primarily a story-teller.  Sax kicks in while people stroll down Broadway.  He is joined by a spirited chorus as we are informed she is not going to take the train, which has appeared.  He sounds almost Dylan-esque at times here, in his vocal style.  Orchestral touches are added as the sax reappears and they fade out with the orchestra and then the piano flourishing to the end.  “Jungleland”  Here we are again in story-telling mode with this more-known-to-me song.  Bruce is certainly an adherent of ‘write what you know about.”  He expertly describes the scene to an almost jubilant piano accompaniment.  Then the full band kicks in and Bruce continues to tell the tale of his “Jungleland.”  There is a feeling of jubilation and triumph, despite the violence that’s described, perhaps the beauty of people fighting for a place in this hard world.  About midway, the pace slows and the sax is soloing with the piano as underpinning.  Song begins to fade with organ and then just bare piano once again, Bruce re-enters to quietly at first, then more vehemently to finish the tale. 

Logan:  Marius Popp “Ornamente”  Very dramatic solo piano begins this piece, with some jazz chording and flourishes (ornamente, indeed), then he moves into some asides, as jazz often progresses.  Almost 2 minutes in, he begins to head in a different direction and the piece adds drums for a moment for emphasis, then back to the more introspective feel, with bass underneath and some percussion.  The pace picks up for a bit and some acoustic guitar is added, playing chords.  The bass comes to the fore, while the piano supports it, there seems to be some effects added to the bass.  Then the piano returns to the vanguard to finish the piece, with flourishes and out….Urban Sax “Slow-Turn Around Melvana”  A favourite of a friend of mine, Archie Patterson, of Eurock fame (who has a documentary coming out that features them, amongst others, “Music Is Life," keep your eyes peeled for it after the new year).   This begins with a fading in and out unearthly chorus sound, reminds me a bit of Balkan vocals.  Not sure what the instrument is that comes in next, but it’s very bagpipes-ish, while the vocals continue, or have they included organ, now?  The sounds are so cleverly done, it’s hard to define them, as now some string-like sounds appear, but they could be being done on horns as well, or maybe it’s just the effect that happens with the layering.  Certainly very ear-catching.  And then definitely, the sound of horns is ascertained.  The vocals return in descant.  The music is very hypnotic and intriguing, there is an almost religious feeing to it.  Horns end the piece, echoing to each other, with a shimmer under them. 
 
suitkees:  Einstürzende Neubauten  “Ein seltener Vogel (A Rare Bird)” Here I had to use the live version, it begins with some ambient sounds, primarily droning and percussive bits and vocals with some effect, perhaps echo?  The sound of the instruments and the voice seem chantlike, then they come in with some clangy-clackies and goinks.  I love the lyrics (thank you for supplying them in English), indeed it does seem like there is something ancient here, in spite of the modern setting.  There is a repeating shrill whistle-type sound that joins in.   It is not as delicate as Dead Can Dance, but there is something about it that calls them to mind for me.  There are some stringy-slidies that come in around 5 minutes in.  The bass continues, along with the vocals and now some lighter bell sounds than the first clangy-clackies.  The piece concludes abruptly.  The rare bird has found his way to hearing his song heard once again.

As I nominated another Janko Nilovic track off the same album before (one of my very favourite albums), I will go with Marius Popp - "Inscriptie”, which I really love anyway, of course, and was my first selection.

Hard to choose this, all three tracks are close to my heart and you write nice comments on all three of them, with somewhat different preferences. I think I'll go for the Meredith Monk one, but thanks for listening to all three of them.

Of the remaining ones I love the Urban Sax one. I have one of their albums after having seen them on German TV long ago. Somehow I wasn't aware that they have many albums despite liking the one I have a lot. They create a very unique atmosphere.

I didn't comment on this one, a bit hard to get into it, but I'm happy that you nominated it because it's clear that it deserves more listens. One of those that doesn't click the first time but the potential to click later is obvious.
