Love Penguin Cafe Orchestra and their successor, Penguin Cafe (Simon Jeffes son). 

PCO music will be familiar to all of you in snatches, as it's used so much on TV etc as incidental music.

Been listening to a lot of different vids from this thread at work. Funny how this stuff complements natural scenery like the woods. I use a lot of time there with the kids...doesn’t really feel like work and it is of course an opportunity to explore David’s wonderful ‘brick of sound’
The Penguin Cafe Orchestra was a real succes and we even did a little Robin Hood meets t-rex “dance”. So yeah thank you guys for making my job that more interesting and fun. I salute thee

It indeed is...like in so much more than most folks will ever know. I don’t know..maybe it’s because many of the kids I work with don’t have any language which means that meta-language, mimic and gestures almost becomes magnified...and sound. Wow...sound is key..good and bad. Now I’ve always used music at work, but it’s only inside the last 3-4 years that I’ve worked with autists...and man let me tell you..if I was without music at work, I’d be lost...or sing myself silly.
When I’ve spent enough time with X kid I sort of get to a place where I ‘understand’ him or her on an instinctive level..and that’s funnily enough also when I start to notice their ‘rhythm’...a sort of nervous ‘tap-tap’ thing that all of them seem to do in their own special way (or most)...and when I sense the rhythm I can also pair music with the kid...and we suddenly ‘talk’.
I’ll admit it though, I’m not at all certain about what all the ‘talking’ was about today out in the woods, but I’m sure glad it was said
