A couple months ago, I stumbled upon a band from the early 70's named Fanny. For some reason I felt this band had a very similar style to that of atomic rooster, and Traffic, like a very early form of prog. I'm uncertain as to rather or not it falls in the prog category, and ask of opinions from people who are more familiar to the genre than me.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imZUqkPlUaQ

I find that both Fanny and their sisters of Birtha both "heavy-prog" related, though I can understand a lot of people could find it a stretch. Definitely my top 2 female bands. ![]() They had moderate chops (and talent in terms of songwriting) but the right attitude, ![]() And the fact that they were pretty cute (without playing on that image too much) didn't hamper their music either Edited by Sean Trane - November 20 2020 at 03:42 |

I like Fanny too, and I'd be happy to see them on ProgArchives, whether or not they're regarded as prog.

I saw Fanny live twice back in the early 70s (once at the Fillmore East and once at Max's Kansas City). A really good band live but never did I ever consider them prog. While they were not 'pop', they did sound more light rock with an electric lean. They should really get their due as the first female rock band.

I think they were one of the first(if not the first)all female band to make a dent in the charts. Sorry Shaggs. ;) Also, apparently David Bowie was a fan. I have listened to some of their songs on youtube and they weren't bad.

I don't consider it Prog but some tunes are pleasant, especially Clapton's Badge cover.

Two years ago I stumbled upon their Beat-club footage on Youtube and I quickly fell in love with the ladies and their music. Especially their albums Charity Ball and Fanny Hill are really good! But I never thought of them as prog related.
