Thanks for everyone's well wishes. Things are looking good for all three. I had a zoom meeting yesterday with one infected friend. Although I have known and known about quite a few with the disease, this was my first chance to actually see someone with Covid. He looked like someone with a very bad case of the flu, very sweaty and swollen, a bit out of it mentally and moving very slugishly (sp). In many ways he is a lucky, some cases I am familiar with have been much worse.

^ The video has a clean bill of health and works just fine for me, having just watched it on YouTube. It just takes a few seconds to load up the full 80-minute-long video that's all, once it's finished buffering.

Wales has just enacted a two week stay at home mandate. This type of restriction is too akin to a house arrest and must surely weigh heavily on it's citizens at this point.

Yes, they have. Yes, it is. Yes, it does. The biggest political row at large now is an injunction by our glorious government (health in Wales is a devolved matter, so Boris and his chums in Whitehall have little say, as in Scotland & NI) that supermarkets should not sell non-essential goods, because smaller retailers have been instructed to close, so there would be an unfair advantage for the likes of Tesco. Naturally, when you have that level of micromanagement, there are endless debates and rows about what, precisely, constitutes essential and non-essential, and it is descending into a hilarious farce. Besides which, if you really need that non-essential baby grow, you can still get it from those nice people at Amazon, because online shopping and delivery are not covered by the retail closure rules. I might add that it is, in fact, only a little over a week ago that our glorious First Minister, Mark Drakeford, was explaining to the media and public that it would be an unfair thing to inflict stricter controls on areas such as mine in Wales which have barely any Covid cases as compared with Cardiff and etc. What changed his mind? Well, the call in England by the leader of the opposition, Sir Keir Starmer (they are in the same party, The Labour Party), to Boris and chums to inflict this type of lockdown across England, rather than a regional approach. Boris refused. Thus, we have more politics going on here than “following the science”. In addition, I might add that Boris’s claims to be taking a localised approach is also rather disingenuous. What the tier system in England is, in fact, a centrally directed instruction to local authorities to close down or restrict movements and freedoms, a rather different thing, of course.

I certainly agree with you Steve. This type of polically driven farce is understandbly unexcusible. What are they doing in stores and shops? Roping off the bog rolls from the furniture polish?

Yes. They are placing plastic sheets and condoning off with specially marked danger tape those items deemed to be non-essential. Rumour has it that there are specially appointed Marshall’s out and about outside supermarkets dissecting the contents of trolleys, but I don’t quite believe that..........

Well, trolley Marshalls don't seem that far out of reason with this lot.

Well, I seem to recall a God-awful game show on tv some years ago called The Price is Right had “Trolley Dolly’s”. They might be a wee bit more acceptable, although given that I don’t shop without the wife, maybe not, eh?

Great news for anyone living in the U.K:- The total number of registered deaths in England for August 2020 was 2,060 less than the five year monthly average and the lowest since regular monthly records of deaths began at the beginning of the 21st century. In addition, Covid-19 has now been downgraded to only the 24th most common cause of death in England, which I believe is good reason for optimism. Here's the stats:- https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/12703599/coronavirus-no-longer-10-biggest-killers-england/ The lyrics of the "Three Little Birds" song always spring to mind when I think of the Chinese "panic-demic."Edited by Psychedelic Paul - October 25 2020 at 12:37 |
