Somebody's probably started a thread on this topic before, but if so, it's well worth resurrecting:
What are some of your favorite prog-based Hammond Organ performances? Two of my favorites that never fail to thrill me, no matter how many times I hear them, are Rod Argent's solo on "Hold Your Head Up", and Steve Winwood's performance on Traffic's "Every Mother's Son". A non-prog performance really worth mentioning is Garth Hudson's solo on the Band's "Chest Fever".

Not sure if he plays a Hammond but Wakeman's solo on Close to the Edge comes to mind.
(When the band kicks in again at the end, not the church organ solo. ) Edited by Argo2112 - October 13 2020 at 14:09 |

Wakeman's solo was recorded on the pipe organ at St.Giles-without-Cripplegate church in Barbican.
I consider that solo to be Wakeman's greatest moment EVER!

^ yes, but I was referring to the section after the pipe organ when everyone kicks in and he solos before the vocals starts again, that part sounds like he's playing a Hammond. No?

The extended solo Jon Lord plays after "Space Truckin" ends on "Made in Japan". After that i mostly like jazz solos from guys like Larry Young and Jimmy McGriff.

Rick Wakeman considers that to be the best organ solo on record. It's hard to disagree with that. I think maybe he likes it because it's so complicated. I doubt Wakeman himself could play it very easily. I like a lot of the organ on foxtrot and selling england. I can't really think of a whole lot more at the moment. There's some good playing on that Affinity album too. Look I just woke up Psychedelic Paul.

Yes, Jon Lord's solo in Space Truckin is out of this world. I also like the intro to Lazy.

This is arguably jazz-rock/fusion: The organ solo starts shortly before the 6 minute mark. The "piano part" is played on the organ too.

Love the Hammond in Space Truckin', but also in Lazy. Actually, you could say Made in Japan is the single best Hammond album... |

I'm pretty sure that Garth Hudson used a Lowrey Festival organ on "Chest Fever". Not a Hammond. ![]() |

I always liked Ray Manzarek's solo in Light My Fire. I don't know technical it was to play but it's pretty cool.
Oops, Manzarek didn't play a Hammond, just a Vox Continental.
