Jem is one of modern prog's most 'creatively efficient' (let's put it that way) figures. Not so much output, mainly from his main venture (Frost*) but everything he's played on is stunning! Tremendous composer and a very fine vocalist, Jem is truly a gem for the genre! Is it the fact that prog is his Ferrari, or just the enormous talent of the guy? I don't know but his music is something else!

I'm a Frostie and agree Jem is super talented, musically. However, I wish he would leave the mixing/mastering to someone else. Talk about ear fatigue and loudness wars. Every release after Milliontown has gotten worse sonically. His recent EP is unlistenable for me.

Absolutely agreed, I also find it hard to enjoy the new EP as much as I would want to.

Simon Godfrey of Tinyfish, Shineback, Valdez and solo fame. Still a member here I believe (sigod) but probably hasn't logged on for years.

Not too long ago Guy Manning was discussed. Apparently, if someone left a 2 star or less review of his work, he would contact the reviewer, and ask why. A lot of those comments from that thread were removed by the administrators. He sent some members PM's scolding them.

Good timing for the thread as I had this e-mail from CD services today
http://www.cd-services.com/
FROST*: 13 WINTERS (8CD-Remastered Audio / Artbook - Stock # 2204945) FROST* were formed back in 2004 by Jem Godfrey, who was privately becoming increasingly frustrated by the creative limitations of the pop genre, and made a conscious decision to record an album true to his own childhood roots in Progressive Rock to let off a bit of steam. Teaming up with John Mitchell (LONELY ROBOT / KINO / ARENA / IT BITES...), FROST* took form and created three stunning albums to date as well as the 2020 digitally released 'Others' EP. The latter is now combined (with a DISC FULL OF RARITIES and TWO LIVE RECORDS. plus all of the STUDIO ALBUMS and the INSTRUMENTAL version of: 'Falling Satellites') as '13 Winters' an Artbook-Anthology resulting in a comprehensive collection of FROST*s back catalogue. Remastered and Expanded with additional art, liner notes by Nick Shilton (PROG) and more. Prior to releasing a new album in 2021, this limited 8 Disc Artbook-Set is the best possible collector's format to dig deep into the group's impressive discography which shapeshifts ingeniously between Prog and Pop, between complex and catchy, heavy and melodic. Limited to just 3000 copies worldwide, these are sure to go fast and will probably go out of stock on release day! And as a reminder... We also still have copies available from stock of: FROST* 'Rockfield Files' (CD+DVD) - Stock # 1667560 - CDDV 13.99 (Details on Web Page: http://www.cd-services.com/product_info.aspx?id=10771&qry=1305811&key=&genre=0&pi=0&status=0 '13 Winters' 8CD Track List... indeed I do love the fact that his influence is Duke and Abacab era Genesis rather than the usual 'done to death' earlier years. Jem (along with Nick Beggs) is easily amongst the best song writers in prog imo. Interesting that they both hail from a pop background.

I only contacted members to find out WHY they did not like something...and in that way help me to understand better and perhaps even improve what I later created...
I only 'scold' when someone writes a blatant lie/fabrication or a completely inaccurate (factually) comment...honest :) Edited by GuyM - October 05 2020 at 02:48 |
