really? Do you mean to say that no studio album is worth having in the list? Also songs repeat on live releases.

My vote remains as is. I can't think of many bands where a live album is simply the culmination of everything a band is. There are many bands that I've seen who were simply awe-inspiring in concert (Floyd, Tull, Genesis, King Crimson, Sabbath, Neil Young, etc.) but never once would I put one of their live albums over a studio release. The only other band I can think of off-hand where a live album transcends their entire discography is The Allman Brothers' Live At Fillmore East.

Yes, I've always believed Deep Purple sound much better live than in the studio. After all, they're in the Guinness Book of Records as the loudest band in the world.

if the songs created in the studio are good, obviously they're gonna sound great live - best example Highway Star in the 70s and Perfect Strangers later in the 80s and 90s. Also Come Hell or High Water is not a great live album, it's listenable, but story goes the tour was a bit of a nightmare, Ritchie was again difficult to work with, never gave interviews, was arrogant, again fighting especially with Gillan, and so on. Live in Paris (1985) is a bootleg ![]() ![]() ![]() |

It's interesting stuff, but it does sound a bit "of its time" (the first track reminds me of The Dukes of Stratosphear) and the less said about "We can work it out" the better.

^ Live in Paris (1985) is very good quality for a bootleg. At least it wasn't filmed on someone's mobile phone in the middle of the audience like some of the more recent bootlegs.

I said some of the more recent bootlegs are clearly filmed on a mobile phone.

A bootleg is defined as " an illegal musical recording, especially one made at a concert", so I would've thought that also applies to illegal concert recordings made on a mobile phone. ![]() You have to admit, that Deep Purple in Paris concert is pretty good quality if it's a "bootleg" recording. ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - September 30 2020 at 09:30 |

In the past (possibly still) TV stations were getting rights and made contracts to broadcast live performances, I've seen quite a few shows on TV, rock, jazz and metal concerts. I wouldn't be surprised that Live in Paris was on TV in France.

1. In Concert with the LSO (1999). 2. In Rock (remaster) 3. Machine Head (with When A Blind Man Cries included) 4. Live in Japan 4 , 3 or 2 CD or 2 LP Made In Japan. Lock, stock, the lot... 5. Perfect Strangers 6. Fireball (remaster) 7. Days May Come And Days May Go (Other than the Sonny and Cher number, a little hideous) a superb setting of improv Purple with an exceptional guitarist who is not one of the usual suspects. |

1. In Rock
2. Burn 3. Fireball 4. Deep Purple 5. Machine Head - great material but the production and performance sounds a bit lifeless to my ears. I've always preferred the more energised versions of Highway Star, Space Truckin et al on Made in Japan. 6. The Book of Taliesyn 7. Stormbringer |
