really? Do you mean to say that no studio album is worth having in the list?
Also songs repeat on live releases.
Yes, I've always believed Deep Purple sound much better live than in the studio. After all, they're in the Guinness Book of Records as the loudest band in the world. Smile

My vote remains as is. I can't think of many bands where a live album is simply the culmination of everything a band is. There are many bands that I've seen who were simply awe-inspiring in concert  (Floyd, Tull, Genesis, King Crimson, Sabbath, Neil Young, etc.) but never once would I put one of their live albums over a studio release. The only other band I can think of off-hand where a live album transcends their entire discography is The Allman Brothers' Live At Fillmore East.

Mmmhh!!... With RDMH, Purple was doing a bit the Vanilla Fudge treatment of classic Motown, but it's overblown (the unmentionned Alzo Spacht Zara inclusion) and almost a tad bit ridiculous (compared to VF's covers), especially when you listen to the original Ike & Tina version.

Hardly that Taliesin album's high point, but still OK in my book.

You won't be surprised to hear I'm a big fan of Vanilla Fudge too. I love overblown prog. Smile

I know they're not British. That's why Vanilla Fudge aren't included in my A-Z of British prog. Smile

Taliesyn didn't make my top seven, but it's a great album.  Its high point for me is Anthem, an amazing ballad and one of my favorite Deep Purple songs.

^ I love Deep Purple's version of River Deep, Mountain High. It's the main reason why The Book of Taliesyn is my favourite Deep Purple album. Thumbs Up

I also prefer the voice of Rod Evans on the first three albums to the later albums featuring Ian Gillan. Smile

I'm quite surprised by that, I'll have to check them out again.

Alan, despite some shaky covers (and even that is debatable), Purple was never so inventive than on those first three albums. I mean I could do without Help, Kentucky Woman, River Deep and Laleña, but none of them are atrocious, far from it. I'm So Glad, Hush, Hey Joe and We Work It Out are great

But it's really their own stuff that's amazing.
