I've been thinking of running a Creedence Clearwater Revival poll, just so I can revive it later. LOL

You should do a thread called the All-time Top 10 Jazz Bands, and ones on other genres too, in the General Music Discussions area. Smile

Don’t really get the love for 70-75 genesis. Never thought they were overly great composers or complex. Just one of a number of many fairly good bands of that era. Gabriel’s voice and lyrics are a slight weakness imo

All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

On the contrary, Gabriel has a very powerful voice, and his lyrics are highly poetic and complex; though, of course, this could be why you think they are weaknesses.
Nevertheless, whatever Cristi says, I'm fairly sure Genesis will always have a reserved seat at number one when there is a thread like this, and that is largely as a result of Gabriel and his powerful poeticness.
On another point, do you prefer other eras of Genesis to the 70-75 era, or is it just that 70-75 Genesis is as good as the other eras of Genesis?

76-77 is my fave genesis era. I think Trespass is Gabriel’s best performance. His voice tends to get rougher by the album after that. By the lamb he was squealing. 76-77 genesis is a cleaner and more professional sounding genesis

Fair enough. Remember Genesis were a lot richer by then, and had access to better equipment, but even then Gabriel's voice did get rougher as he aged, and Genesis perhaps sounded less proffesional when they were younger.

I liked their compositions more in 76 and 77. My whole collection is late 60s, 70s and early 80s prog but every time I hear musical box. It just sounds average. It’s apparently a masterpiece in here

Holy Cow! I can't believe that Caravan is still trailing behind Henry Cow in this long-running poll. Shocked

I'll have a series of Battle of the Bands albums polls coming up soon featuring the 20 eventual winners of this poll, although sadly and inexplicably, it won't feature Caravan as they didn't make it into the final Top 20. Ouch  Cry  Broken Heart

I was surprised you hadn't already voted too. Unfortunately, if Caravan are placed at #11 in your listings, they don't pick up any points in the poll. Anyway, here's the latest Top 20 update with your votes added:-

1. Genesis (525 points)
2. King Crimson (462 points)
3. Yes (456 points)
4. Pink Floyd (433 points)
5. Rush (249 points)
6. Jethro Tull (178 points)
7. Emerson, Lake & Palmer (165 points)
8. Van der Graaf Generator (135 points)
9. Gentle Giant (116 points)
10. IQ (90 points)

11. Marillion (80 points)
12. Soft Machine (78 points)
13. Porcupine Tree (75 points)
13. Camel (75 points)
15. Renaissance (69 points)
16. Magma (67 points)
17. Can (66 points)
18. Cardiacs (60 points)
19. Spock's Beard (55 points)
20. Henry Cow (46 points)

King Crimson moves into second place above YES for the first time. Shocked

At least that's something we both agree on (for a change). Tongue

I'm hoping a few late votes might put Caravan in the Top 20 where they belong. Smile

You're missing out on the chance to vote for Marillion, now that they've entered the Top 10 for the first time, thanks to Suitkees. Your vote could potentially put Marillion in 8th place, just behind Jethro Tull. Smile
