I actually know most of the albums in this poll, which makes a nice change, and with a sense of dogged determination, I'm voting for Kate Bush. Smile

I wore out at least eight albums on here. Hmmm ... which should I choose?

Are you a winking kind of guy in every day life?

Why are you quoting me again?
You are not reviving old polls, you are only reviving your own. You know, some of them have run their course. Let it go...

If I revive an old poll, it means two things - I missed it the first time and I think it is a nice poll.

I don't think I've ever revived my own polls though.

I almost picked Frankie Goes to Hollywood........but Rush Signals is a massive album, it has large melons but is not blonde.

I am not reviving any old polls either.

The second, third, fourth and fifth albums from Simple Minds are definitive art rock/progressive pop albums.

I especially love the two 1981 albums produced by Steve Hillage i.e. Sons and Fascination and Sister Feelings Call.

Nice list.

Voting for Rush is too easy for me, so I'll vote Tin Drum by Japan, although it's jostling for top spot with hounds of Love, Secrets of the Beehive & Spirit of Eden.

Surely ELPowell is symphonic prog?? The Score, Touch & Go & Mars are hardly prog pop or Art Rock. IMO.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Remain in Light, Hounds of Love or Spirit of Eden. Choosing between these is like choosing my favourite son.

Ultravox - 'Vienna' with its cold atnosphere and viberant synth/keyboard/violin by Kevin Curry, a very influential album.

Peter Gabriel: "Melt"
No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

Plenty of really good stuff here, but Laurie Anderson’s Big Science was the first album to come to mind when I saw the title and will get my vote. I really love that album, and it is a sentimental favourite.

I hated "O Superman" when it was released and play quite a lot on the radio in Australia.

The sentimentality has an Australian connection for me.

I loved “O Superman” from first seeing the music video in Canada — not like a bold love unlike your bold hate. I rarely really have hated music. Disliked plenty.    I found it weird and wonderful. I’ve always appreciated the quirky. It was years later as a 19 year old while in Australia that I first heard the album and fell for it.   Listening to it takes me back to my wonderful time in Cairns and the Northern beaches of Queensland.

It’s rather like how I associate Magma’s Attahk with beaches in Mexico. Music and beaches go together so well for me.

I've never heard the album. Naturally, I wouldn't seek the album if I hated the frequently played song from it. And when I say I "hated" the song, I mean I hated the song with a passion... something that is quite rare.

I’m sure your strong reaction said something interesting about your psyche. I’ve hardly ever really hated a piece of music. There is plenty that I’ve disliked. Other than Pedro would likely complain, I’d quite te like to do a topic on this subject — art (music, books, films, tv, painting, sculpture etc.) that caused an extreme negative visceral reaction in you, coupled with one’s that had an extremely positive reaction. That could be cathartic, and I like the kinds of topics that get us to understand better how we as individuals and others think and experience things. And that can lead to more tolerance and finding common ground.

By the way, not that I would ever recommend the album to you, but I knew someone who liked the rest of the album but disliked that one song. I have another positive Laurie Anderson connection. In high school my favourite class was Creative Writing as might be expected of someone who likes writing on the Internet, even if my writing here is not as creative as I would like, and my teacher loved to play Laurie Anderson music in her class.

I can’t think of any song I’ve had such a strong reaction to, but I wouldn’t expect to have the same emotional wiring. While some “hate” any negativity, I think it can be helpful to share and be honest about such feelings. I have rarely felt hatred. I guess I have kind of hated the ISIS organisation, despise much religious fanaticism and other types of fanaticism, and have felt a sort of hatred, more like disgust, towards various murderers and rapists.

If I had a Death Note that worked on songs, there are a few I wouldn’t mind killing.

It's possible if that song differs markedly from the rest of the album. For example, when "Crime of the Century" was released, "Dreamer" was a frequently played song that I didn't like. But I loved the rest of the album, and eventually even appreciated "Dreamer" as quite a good song.
