Easy for me in the sense that I like some singer/songwriter material for the music, but am fairly generally not interested in lyrics. Tongue
Seriously, good topic! Even without lyrics (who wants them can look for them on their own).

Amos Goldberg (professor of Genocide Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem): Yes, it's genocide. It's so difficult and painful to admit it, but we can no longer avoid this conclusion.

It's such a different ouvre than the progressive one where lyrics can be important, but are not necessarily the primary consideration...and prog relies so much on the instrumentation.  I agree, we can look up the lyrics (even in other languages) and often people will have provided a translation on the the YT, as well.  At worst, Google translate, if necessary, as Raff said.

I can't guarantee that the male singer/songwriter genre itself will be "happy," Raff, indeed my openers are all a bit wistful, one even a bit chilling.  But don't let others keep you away if they happen to have some sort of difference of opinion that they cannot express respectfully, that is truly more about them than you.  I do greatly value your opinions on here, your insight and perspective.

Cheerful, funny, and novelty songs are also very welcome, many in this genre cover the gamut of emotion and experience.

Excellent theme.  The only problem I have is....which of the many do I want to post?

Edit:  After thinking about this, I was coming up with so many different things I could post, so I thought I would narrow it down a bit by excluding songwriters that perform behind a band name, cases in point would be like The Swell Season, The Low Anthem, Iron & Wine and such.  I'll just stay with the individual performer performing under his own name (or stage name).   But there are still so many I could post.  We might have to do a "part 2" to this after someone does a female songwriters poll, which there would also be a lot to choose from.

This works for me, for now at least.  I'll have to play it by ear though and see how tough it is for me to keep up, but I should know by the 2nd week in August.

I don't think it's quite done yet, but I do want to thank everyone who came in and planted some great music in the field of the male singer/songwriter poll.  So many classics, so much that I had no idea existed.  Bravo and brava!

For me this was great, too, given particularly that I don't listen to that much singer/songwriter music. I have a tendency to like it but not be overly enthusiastic, because I do like a good melody and delicate voices but much is too lyrics-dominated for me. Very good to get an impression of the breadth of the genre. The ladies need their turn as well (I have already two or three lined up for that, interesting given that I say I don't have that much, no? Let's say if they hit me, they hit me big time), but it might not be me who offers this. However I'd be curious to run one on cover versions in two months or so when I can have another spot on the list.

Yes, the women have a very different worldview, I hope someone does want to present one of that side as well.  I'm glad it was fun for you, even if not your usual.  I think the offerings did show it's actually a much more diverse world than one might expect.

I know that I had not committed to that date, but I think that I will be too busy at the time. If I can I will have to confirm closer to the date. If I don't confirm, then that will mean that I am focused on other things.

From the "It's Catchy #15 Poll"

From the team topic, it looks like Shadowyzard is supposed to be next, followed by Raff.

Both are questionable as to whether they are participating at this time.  If they are, that's great!  The more the merrier.
Since Lorenzo said he's on holiday, I'll send them both a PM to inquire.  Will post this is the group topic also.

First of all, allow me to apologize for my rather antisocial behaviour of a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, I was going through a patch of bad sleep quality, which always has a negative impact on my mood. I am sorry that you all were on the receiving end of my bad mood. Unfortunately, this situation (especially in the US, where the COVID-19 emergency seems to have no end) is wearing on everybody's nerves.

Anyway, as I promised I'd do, I'll take care of the next poll, if Shadowyzard is still away. Are we supposed to start during the weekend?

Thank you for opting to do this if Shadowyzard is unable to take this next spot (if he does, you would then be the next one after that, from the schedule posted here).  I believe most have started on Mondays, but of course you could really begin any time that works with your schedule.  It's appeared to me as though more people have time to listen on the weekend and respond.

As for me, your apology is accepted...we all are in a nightmarish time and it's much easier to have a short fuse between this pandemic and lack of sleep added to it.

I am looking forward to what either or both of you bring to the polls!  Smile

Good to have you back! Clap
BTW it's holiday period generally, so I think no problem if the rhythm is made a bit slower.

Hi folks,

Nickie PM'd me and I explained her that I'll not be able to take a poll till October. I've been hanging out here nowadays, but my internet is limited here as I mentioned earlier and unlike plainly hanging out and posting text messages, Youtube consumes some serious MB's. Even if I make the stuff 144p, listening to dozens of songs (think of 15 nominations and listening to them each twice or thrice) would not be okay for me. Also, my time is getting more and more precious as my deadline approaches.

I'll probably return to Ankara in October and hopefully join the ride.

Kind regards,

Özgür
