This has become a very nice collection of songs... I'm very happy to discover the Italian batch (in this category I only knew Angelo Branduardi, actually), especially Francesco de Gregori - both the nominated "Rumore di niente" as well as "La casa di Hilde" - and Francesco Guccini. Will explore these further (I am fortunate to understand enough Italian to get most of the lyrics).

Listened to the playlist (thanks Mathman Thumbs Up), but I am now in dire need of some Led Zep or Grobschnitt to compensate... LOL
Will give the playlist another go through my loudspeakers later to come to a vote.

I also apologize for disappearing without a word. This is a bit of an "off" time for me, and when I am like that I don't feel very sociable Smile. Anyway, thanks to everyone for the words of appreciation. I'll nominate the De Gregori song, "La casa di Hilde", which has been a favourite of mine ever since I first heard it in 1972.

The poll is officially updated and the voting can begin.  I am going back through to listen to the ones I don't know already....I have to say that of those that I did, they are stellar examples of this genre and I thank everyone for their contributions.  Clap

As stated, I didn't know this one, first listening thoughts this morning, then on to my "podium," to listen through again.

Elliott Smith “Miss Misery”  Got me with the sad, doubled vocals.  Minor key, slightly angsty vignette of being left behind by another dark sort of soul, what’s not to like?

De Gregori Vs De Gregori!

The young De Gregori (La Casa di Hilde) fight against the adult De Gregori (Rumore di Niente).
Amos Goldberg (professor of Genocide Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem): Yes, it's genocide. It's so difficult and painful to admit it, but we can no longer avoid this conclusion.

The lyrics of

RUMORE DI NIENTE

(Ok, they are abstract and especially they recall some of the lyrcis of the previous songs, because RUMORE DI NIENTE is the last song of the album CANZONI D'AMORE)

Amos Goldberg (professor of Genocide Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem): Yes, it's genocide. It's so difficult and painful to admit it, but we can no longer avoid this conclusion.

I liked the Ivano Fossati the most. The vocals are engaging and the arrangements are pleasant without trying too much.

Thank you, dear Meltdowner.

The singing of Fossati is very particular. His voice is very deep and he tends to drag the voice onto the vowels.

I will choose some Fossati's songs for the next polls.

You have chosen the Denver FIVE!

Well... here we go.

YEAR 1972.

John Denver write a song, called SUITE, with five movements...

Did he want to be accredited as a prog singer?
Anyway, wonderful suite! You Got My Vote GOLD MEDAL.

Nickie, I was hoping in your opinion about my nominations.
Oh, I'm sorry I didn't respond to that sooner.  I was thinking that my favourite of these was out of competition (for another reason than Carmen, she being female, of course).  I go with the emotionality of Ivano Fossati.

Well,

maybe I should have chosen Ivano Fossati given your opinion and Meltdowner's.

Carmen Consoli will come into play in the poll on female singers.

Everyone should choose what they like....I usually don't have second thoughts on a piece, I did this time, however.  I should have thought that proggers would have the patience for the longer Shindell piece, "Transit."  Similar in the respect to the John Denver Suite, I did think of that as being very proggy....It is a fine piece of music, but I did know it, so not voting "for" it.

I voted for Jim Croce "Time In A Bottle" and Nick Drake's "Fruit Tree". The common denominator being that they are incredibly sad in the prescient manner in which the lyrics mirrored the artist's demise.

I need to listen to everything before I can vote. I will try to do so later today. As I already stated, this is not my favourite kind of music, but I am sure I'll find something to my taste.
