Amos Goldberg (professor of Genocide Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem): Yes, it's genocide. It's so difficult and painful to admit it, but we can no longer avoid this conclusion.

ok, so two weeks or so from now, catchy non-prog songs round, any genre, avoid famous songs. If that is fun for everyone, we can do a catchy prog songs round, again avoiding famous songs.

Tokyo Groove Jyoshi - What is Hip? It is not bad - it's well played and all that - but it is not really interesting either, except perhaps for the banjo-sounding string instrument. Apart from that, it's been heard before many times. Very "music conservatory like"...

Ludovico Einaudi - In un'altra vita (In Another Life) It's OK I guess. But these piano chords do little for me. For most part it's the same four chords over and over again. There's got to be some more black keys in use (#'s and b's) and some unexpected chord changes to make it interesting for me. At least in this context.

glad you enjoyed it... and enjoying your mini reviews. It has been song long since I've done reviewing of any sort I had forgotten how much I did reviewing music. Not that I was really any good.. I sort of review as I post as Nuke pitchs and f**ks.. sorta all over the place. Plus.. when you sleep with the Sun that is Raff and her impeccable reviews.. it was quite easy to feel like mine were sh*t. And most were.. I could never settle on a style..yet I lived for the ones I knocked out of the park.. and I sure as sh*t did with a few.

Kaleidoscope - Taxim Oriental colours here with an Arabic scale in some parts (Dorian in others). Conceptually it's not that far from the Anoushka Shankar piece, but here with a psychedelic flavour. An interesting piece of music which doesn't entirely grab me though. Strange, especially since the Indian one did.

Janko Nilovic - Underground Session And now for a complete change of pace towards 70's sounding fusion music. I really like the groove and the main riff plaued by the wind instruments. It's quite a gamble to just repeat the riff over and over again with multiple variations. There are breaks though. After approximately five minutes, there is a contrasting section that almost sounds proggy to me. Then a drum solo reintroduces the main riff. Then another contrating piece with prog similarities, and the track ends. A possible contender for my votes.

Era - Tono I'm trying to figure out the violin. It looks like an ordinary acoustic violin, but there's a plug in it, so it must have a built in pickup. His playing becomes a bit to much for me at times, especially as it is sometimes at the expense of correct pitch. Otherwise I can't find anything bad to say about the music, but it doesn't really grab me.

I am aware of the importance of music such as this in rock history, but for me personally it does very little. Not that I don't like any tracks by the Allman Brothers, but long extended jams with never ending guitar solos are generally not for me. Especially not if it's on a standad 12 bar blues form (which is why I find it very hard to get through an acclaimed album such as Layla by Derek and the Dominos). Thankfully it is not a 12 bar blues here, but it just goes on and on and on. Btw. is it recorded while Duane Allman was still alive? |

George Benson - 6 to 4 The soundscape suggests late 70's to early 80's. I really like the riffs, especially that before the breaks. There are some nice jazzy chords, and the groove is well swinging. I also really the guitar solo - it's virtuose but pleasantly restrained. The track is not exactly cutting edge, but it's enjoyable for me in any case.

it is not a JAM damnit..!!!! Nor was it the blues. It is jazz fusion.. modal jazz played in the rock context as opposed the other 99% of fusion artists that played rock in the jazz context. and yes was that Duane playing.. he had the 2nd solo after Greg's organ solo. Easy to tell which he is.. he is considered by most guitar players. serious ones at least.. to probably have the best tones any guitar player ever had. He can even make a Les Paul sound distinctive..

Long extended tracks with never ending guitar solos then ;) As I wrote: thankfully it is not blues here, I just mentioned those long solos on a blues form (to which this track does not belong).

Peace & Quiet - Looney Tunes 70's sounding rock. Another one with endless guitarsolos, and as such not for me. Not bad though.

Bryan Beller - Casual Lie Day We go slightly more funky here. It's certainly well executed, and there are some nice jazzy chords. Not a type of music I listen to that much, but I do like it. I wouldn't call it groundbreaking though. It sounds pretty much like you'd expect that kind of music to sound.

Scorn - Forever Turning There hasn't been much electronica in these polls so far, so this is a nice change of pace. I'm really intrigued by this. Gloomy and mesmerizing. An obvious contender for my points.

May I ask why do you express an opinion on every song in the poll?
