Statue huggers can take solace in knowing that hollywood donald wants to make it a 10 year prison sentence for defacing a statue, but what do you expect from someone who has never read a history book or visited a museum. Go fascism!
What next, 20 years for saying something negative about the USA or the president. How about 30 years for slandering large corporations.
Kneel before the steely gaze of the mighty statue you minions. Kneel and tremble in fear.

And I still like to listen to Michael Jackson despite his misdeeds, but none of that has anything to do with how statues are used for propaganda.
This has nothing to do with being 'politically correct', at least not to me. It has everything to do with people white washing history with their statues that lie about history.

What are pro Confederate flag Southerners lying about with their Confederate war statues and memorials? They love their Jim Crow history and are not trying to white wash anything.

Maybe my choice of words was incorrect.
Look at it this way. A very large majority of people in Memphis do not think the confederacy should be glorified or given tribute.
We want to keep the history as it really was, the biggest disaster that ever happened to the south and the US, but no glorification. No heroic statues.
Its easy to think of some statues that would be more honest and real and better represent what the confederacy was really about.

Why did the Polish people remove statues that pay tribute to Stalin or Hitler. All of that is part of their history too. Do they want to erase or change the history, not at all. They don't want to change or erase anything, but they want to choose who they pay tribute to.
Talk about white washing history, %50 of southerners were opposed to the civil war, but they don't get a statue.
EDIT: If a southern individual or group wants to pay tribute to the confederacy, they are welcome to do that in their own way, statues and everything on their property, not tax funded public property.
Gotcha! Thumbs Up

Seems completely reasonable..  and I'd bet it occured shortly after the fact with overwhelming majority.

reasonable (not sure if 10 years, but..).

not reasonable, hasn't happend and it won't if there is any respect for laws and little thingies called Constitutions.

I grant you your case could have merit and/or be somewhat borderline, but...

You say that 50% of Memphis was against it.. well the fact those statues remain perhaps tells something too.. (otherwise probably; it amazes me the simplism and extremism in its application bordering fascism of the views that go: 'I don't like this thing.. everyone has to had been wrong for centuries, gonna go wipe them all right now' thinking), perhaps the ancestors of the people in Memphis or other Southern States didn't do enough for stopping the enslavers.. I dunno.. perhaps that thing even was convinient for some, perhaps they hadn't the nerve.. why there wasn't a proper civil war in Memphis about it for instance..?  hence..  now we come, after the fact, with all our moral superiority and zero-cost and everyone has to obey us instantly..  on the other hand, I imagine there was people that died on that conflict defending the view of the majority of the State at the time.

As for the USA and Canada, i say we ask the Native Americans what they think of all these statues and let them make the final decision. I wonder, oh i wonder what they would say!

^ I haven't seen many cigar store Indians lately, so I think that they may have already spoken.
