By and large a good list; we agree on some of their best and some are different (no. 1 of those I miss is probably I'm Only Sleeping; I'd also have more George on the list, but not Within You, Without You, and more Rubber Soul, but not Girl)! OK, to the task:
1 Tomorrow Never Knows
2 I Am The Walrus
3 Let It Be
4 While My Guitar Gently Weeps
5 A Day In The Life
So out of these I choose four of your Top 5; in a free Beatles list I'd probably have these in the Top 8-10.

1. I am the Walrus.. I blame half my brain cell loss on this song alone.. the other half on Floyd albums..
2. I Want to Tell You - one of George's finest..  and one of those songs that even when pissed at the world... if I hear it.. man I get a stupid smile of my face.
3. Eleanor Rigby   - words fail me.. but one of the those songs that are like Oxygen man.
4. A Day in the Life  - no words needed
5.  Revolution 9.  Was my..  suspect most people introduction to the avant garde side of life.. in particular musique concrete.. and even after all these years and hearing so much of it..  as one might expect with the Beatles and their never to be touched ear for melody..  none approach it. Though I love what Battiato did with it in the late 70's

Hi,

I was thinking that a poll about which Beatles songs were redone by someone else, was better/worse and such ... but my listening totality, has been the worst since I got away from pop music, and the beeahtles. I haven't bothered with "pop music" or "top 100" for 50 years and am not starting now!

Points off if you forget Stackridge, or Monsoon (Sheila Chandra), or Ides of March, or that one band from Argentina! Kudos from versions from Japan and China (specially!). Extra points if you find one of the "sauerkraut" bands doing it!

BTW, in the Beatles Live in Hamburg (way before 1964), there are things that are way better and more fun than what the song eventually became ... and it takes out a few choices really quick ... you get to hear a band that was pretty obvious had something working well for them!

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

I'd say I'm a Lennon-Martin man, because

-  A Day in the Life
- I Am the Walruss
- Strawberry Fields
- Being For The Benefit of Mr Kite

are masterpieces of production. Lennon said to Martin how he wanted the arrangement, and Martin did it.
His hand is very important to determinate the final sound of these songs.
Macca, instead, did the arrangement of his songs on his own, he didnt delegate to Martin, in a certain way he was more complete than John as musician. But I admit that the medium quality of his songs, especially in the second part of the career of the Beatles, is lower than that of John's songs.

Anyway I love even the songs of Paul and George.
About Paul & George: in my Top 50 there are these songs.

26) Hey Jude (Paul) 8+
27) Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds (John + Paul) 8+
28) I Saw Her Standing There (Paul + John) 8+
29) Michelle (Paul) 8+
30) Old Brown Shoe (George) 8+
31) Something (George) 8+
32) Back in the USSR (Paul) 8+
33) Ob-la-dì Ob-la-dà (Paul) 8+
34) She Loves You (John e Paul) 8+
35) I Want To Hold Your Hand (John e Paul)8+
36) Savoy Truffle (George) 8+
37) Dear Prudence (John) 8+
38) All My Loving (Paul) 8+
39) Twist and Shout (*cover - John) 8+
--------------------------------------------------------
8
40) Get Back (Paul, version 45r.) 8
41) Taxman (George) 8
42) Sgt Pepper’s (Paul) 8
43) Here Comes The Sun (George) 8
44) I Feel Fine (John) 8
45) I’ve Got a Feeling (John e Paul) 8
46) The Word (John e Paul) 8
47) Norwegian Wood (John + Paul) 8

Side Two of the Mystery Tour:

- Hello Goodbye
- Strawberry Fields
- Penny Lane
- Rich Man
- All You Need Is Love

Heck, throw in Side 1 as well - the band's greatest accomplishment, IMO.
