One of the greatest choirs in the world Oreya from the Ukrainian city Zhytomyr (birthcity of Sviatoslav Richter) performed this probably RIO'ish piece of experimental music composed by avant-garde German composer Hans Joachim Hespos:
They also used to perform Flight Of The Bumblebee: Edited by Woon Deadn - June 01 2020 at 05:53 |

Apart from obvious KARFAGEN namedrop, I'd also recommend another Kharkiv-based band, 5R6. They're still around, only now they play a little different kind of music, more alternative rock than prog metal. They're called DOOMED CITY now:

Also here's the full list of Ukrainian bands on PA: http://www.progarchives.com/Bands-country.asp?country=194
Speaking of the ones not on PA, I'd recommend checking out POKRUTCH: Strangely enough, this eclectic project is created by the same people who started arguably the biggest (now defunct) Ukrainian nu metal band ТОЛ. What are the odds, right?.. |

Silent Grace is an instrumental progressive rock ensemble from Odessa who has released two albums so far. Already in PA. Their dreamlike soundscapes are breathtaking. |

Way Station, a trio from Kiev, is also already in PA. The trio
created a very interesting, ambient-like "post-progressive" sound. Way
Station has so far put out two splendid albums. |

The Kyiv-based instrumental progressive rock group Cthulhu Rise has an experimental approach. The band is unquestionably excellent, and their interplay always goes incredibly well. The French label Musea Records released the band's highly regarded debut album in 2012. Cthulhu Rise put out another full-length album in 2016 and one EP in 2020. |

Gravitsapa, in English, Gravity, was founded in Lviv in 2005. The name
of this group has been given by the 1986 Soviet cult movie Kin-Dza-Dza!,
which shows a post-apocalyptic hostile world.
One would not find evidence of a commitment to any one style as representing this avant-garde band's artistic philosophy. At the same time, it seems that the leading work principle is to avoid repeating successful experiments from track to track. This methodology stimulates constant finding of means for evading genre commonplaces, creating metaphysical atmosphere, and calling forth ecstasies with the help of music. On the
Italian avant-garde label HysM?, Gravitsapa has released two EPs to
date: "Free Radio Taxipod" and "Vulgata," both in 2013. "Demo-2," the
band's first full-length album, was released in 2016. In 2023, they
released their second full-length album entitled "Concert No. 1 '23.23'
(for Chamber Duo with looper and Polivox)." |
