I already have a couple of songs lined up for the next two editions. I missed the first poll, but now that I've become more familiar with the concept I find I really like it.

In fact I have listened to them all and pretty much narrowed it down... but will maybe take some more time to make my final decision.
Standings up to now: The Phil Ochs one is of supreme beauty and my clear winner. No way I'm not voting for that.
But then...
Maybe I like Stephan Forte second best, very cool mind blowing stuff, but then to my ears that's crystal clear prog, even if currently not listed here...
The Bears one is very nice and relaxed, loved to listen to that.
Earth, Wind and Fire... haven't listened to them for a very long time, thought it's not my cup of tea, but this one is very good, has a very smooth flow.
Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks, great arrangement and playing, I love how intensive this gets... ultimately I'm not keen on the singing, so chances are I'm not going to vote it but it's great in a way.
Frankie Goes to Hollywood, I know it very well and have a love/hate relationship with this track, love the rhythm and drive and the voice, sometimes their overdramatisation annoys me. (I'm tempted to say this is 80s pop's Close To The Edge Tongue)

As always I can find something special to like in every one of these, proper music listeners with good taste will always recommend something that has some spark!

Vote for Phil Ochs is set in stone, still have to make my mind up about no. 2 and 3.

Re Francesco Guccini, very good voice and intricate sensitive song... but I'm with micky, too much lyrics and too little music. My Italian teacher in London would play me such stuff, some actually quite good, and language teachers think that songs are great for learning a language... but for me to concentrate on the lyrics of something that is *music* and should therefore be about the sound (as far as I'm concerned) feels unnatural and I always sense some rebellion against it.

Of course you were within your rights to do that... anyway, I have only given one vote yet. Can't decide between Forte, Bears, and Earth Wind and Fire for 2 and 3...
I think I take the easy way out... Bears have 3 votes, EW&F 2 and Forte none, so Forte and EW&F it is. 

Last time I voted for the most popular choices, this time for the outsiders.

Hmmm, yes, but you have voted for Phil Ochs, one of the American songwriters most similar to Guccini, and basically famous for his lyrics.
However, the songwriters are not born in Italy, but in France and Belgium, I speak of chansonniers such as Brel, Brassens, Ferrè. The Italians De André (here in PA as Prog-related, otherwise I would post some of his songs) and Guccini took from them and from Bob Dylan, who made the first three records only with guitar, voice and harmonica, all based on the lyrics. If we think about it, Desolation Row, taken from what is considered his folk rock masterpiece, Highway 61 revisited, has ten verses, is a flood river, sung from start to finish and lasts over 10 minutes. In reality, Guccini and De Andrè have never made such a threadbare song. After all, I also chose the Song of the usual questions because of the nostalgic and classical melody, not for the text. Anyway, dear Christian, now I already have in mind a song by Guccini where the musical part and the arrangement are clearly predominant with respect to the lyrics, and I keep it in reserve for one of the next threads.Wink

Well I had mixed feelings to listen to it, I was undecided whether to consider it good music or just a very commercial and enjoyable easy listening. Some passages reminded me of the electro-tango music that I danced, and that I liked, although obviously this song is not a tango.

I don't hear any tango whatsoever. But then again I do not know what electro-tango is and truth is it does not feel like something I'd be interested in. 

Very commercial? A jazz song? Funny, I don't get it. People often use the term "commercial" as derogatory which in a lot of cases (the song I chose included) is undeserving. 
Also if you ask me, there's no such thing as good music or bad music, it's just music we like and music we don't like, that simple.

Your contribution was not in my top three, but I enjoyed it, even though it might have a little bit more to do with celerity than with melody. A welcome addition to such a list imho .

Commercial music can be good or bad.
Misplaced Chlidhood is very commercial and it's a great prog album. 
Suzanne Vega plays commercial folk music, Steely Dan commercial pop-jazz and I like them.
That song by Dan Mandrila is quite commercial, electric-pop-jazz I would say.

Hi,

One of the things I always wanted to do on stage was to put on the COMPLETE ... Frankie Goes to Hollywood, although I would also use film for the backgrounds, and end up with a sort of "West Side Story" ... complete with a live band and dancers ... and offer a lot of nudity and give Micky an erection, and maybe even invite him to be in it ... so he can have some fun. 

AND, we would have to do this a la "Marat/Sade", with a fence in the front and a row of folks sitting there representing the upper class buffoons that think that stuff like this is below their bathroom moments! And they have to get upset and ... you know the rest!

As one of the folks in "Marat/Sade" says ... "we're here to give these patients ... THERAPY." (SLIGHTLY PARAPHRASED) ... and we really need to do something bombastic to get attention, and that should get a few folks in the theater with their smartphones!

And the show ... would be here to give the audience some THERAPY"!

...

I think you are using the word "commercial" for something that is "accessible" or "catchy". 
And like I said, many listeners (if not most) use the word "commercial" as something bad, awful. It never has a positive connotation.
