I would advise against that because I think it would demotivate people from participating. By having people vote for three songs (multiple votes allowed), they will at least vote for two songs that aren't their own. |

I'd be more comfortable not voting for my nomination and planned not to vote for it. That would be rather to much liking voting for myself for my comfort. It's enough for me that I mentioned it and it was included -- that's a kind of vote in and of itself. That said, non like-minded individuals might find it demotivating. 15 may be a bit ambitious, not really for me. I wouldn't promise to listen to every track fully from start to finish. If something seems obviously anathema to my ears, I'll listen to enough bits of it at least to feel like I "get" the song. I'm already checking out other people's music, getting a feel for it, and so come voting day, I won't have to spend so long revisiting the music. |

I hope two more new songs will arrive soon but in any case, even if they don't come, what do you say about starting the voting at 6.00 pm?

Start it when you like.
I have a bit of a problem, even excusing my own, there's too much I really like that's been mentioned. Just choosing three would be hard, but I guess that's the challenge. So aside from the Nick Drake (since I won't vote for my own choice), loved: CSI: L'ora delle tentazioni The Shoes: Time is What I Need Foals: Heavy Water Ratso: I Want Everything (ft. Yasmine Hamdan) Parliament: Mothership Connection Anna & Elizabeth: Little Black Train The Illinois Speed Press: Beauty Lambchop: Up With People Favouring that which is newer to me, so maybe so far: Lambchop (very much what I've been into of late), the Anna & Elizabeth is awesome, and my third is undecided -- maybe CSI: L'ora delle tentazioni, but the Ratso is kind of what I've been into of late. Will see if there are other choices, and maybe my choices will shift. EDIT: I do hope you do another one soon, this is an enjoyable exercise for me. I love topics where we listen to each other choices and hear new to us music (something I've often tried for but rarely accomplished it well with my own topics). I do rather wish I'd been a little more "out there" with my choice as so may already know Nick Drake, I've mentioned it so many times, and it feels like a safe choice. I don't treat such things as contests. Edited by Logan - May 18 2020 at 09:50 |

I'm pretty sure politicians vote for themselves. Anyway, it is not my intention to automatically vote for my nomination, but rather to vote for the three I like best, even if that doesn't include my nomination. But I do think that imposing not voting for your own nomination as a rule would be demotivating. Edited by I prophesy disaster - May 18 2020 at 10:26 |

I wonder what kind of person would only not take part because they're not allowed to vote for themselves... I surely don't mind. Problem now is that some will do it and some won't do it as a matter of principle, which isn't quite the best place to be in. I recommend to make the rule clear from the start next time.

I do want to say to jamesbaldwin that I think making the interactive poll about non-prog is a stroke of genius, ensuring a wide diversity of music to choose from.

Politicians do. I am not a politician, and as a general rule I do not respect politicians (there have been individuals who are politicians that I do respect). While I would not find it demotivating, various others might. There's more than enough that I like in the list that I would feel no need to vote for my own. By the way, because I don't like to treat such things as contests, I don't care which gets more votes. I rarely vote in my own polls even when I have a favourite, but then I tend to be more interested in people's impressions of the music than just how they vote. |

6pm my time, your time, his time, Martian time, Prog time....c'mon man ur killin me!!! ![]() Make it a "rule" not to vote for your own is fine but I took the voting as that was understood. It's about picking 3 others you like....pretty simple. I do like more than 3 so far, but I could chose just 3 easily.

I thought I had narrowed it down to 3 favorites, but then Chris had to put up one of my favorite Lambchop songs. I think it would be best not to vote for our own selection because it is already a vote just putting the track in the thread. Of course we already know we like the one we selected and so does everyone else here.

If our own selection is one of the three preferred tracks, then why not vote for it? But if we are honest with ourselves, and it turns out that there are three tracks that are preferable to our own, then we would not vote for our own selection. In other words, it should not be assumed that we would vote for our own selection, and that whether we do or don't should be an option that allows us to state our true opinion. One can always express one's "true" opinion in a post. For instance, I might say, "My actual favourite, quite unsurprisingly, is the one that I nominated for the poll, but of the other choices my three favourites are x, y, and z. and so those are the three that I voted for." There's nothing disingenuous about that. I'm hoping that people will say a little about their impressions of the music when it comes to their selections (why they chose what, what appealed about the music...). |

That the voting begins! Please choose three songs, no less and no more. (Since someone has already voted for the song he has proposed (and there is nothing wrong), it is possible to vote for his own song. In the next poll I would suggest putting as a rule not to do it (I should have specified it immediately also for this topic but I forgot to write it immediately)). So, after listening to the 14 songs, we can vote for our three favorites. Members who have not proposed any song are also invited to vote. I would ask you to write down your three preferences, and if you want, to specify what you like in the songs you have chosen. The member who proposed the song that will win, if he wants, could eventually write what he loves about that song and / or its author. Thank you all for your participation!

Well, there were some excellent posts here and it was definitely a lot harder to pick out favorites than I had originally thought it would be. So, everything was great, but after listening many times, I voted for these three:
Hattler: Assalamu Alaikum - I was immediately drawn to this track mostly because of the great vocalist, the catchy and infectious rhythm and the guitar work. The Illinois Speed Press: Beauty - I love this west-coast sound. I had never heard of this band and must say that I was really impressed with this. It was like hearing the authentic sound of "Buffalo Springfield" discovered in a forgotten track. CSI: L'ora delle tentazioni - I must thank Lorenzo for posting this. I have this thing for beautiful and emotional Italian music like this and the fact that they can always make it sound new and exciting everytime is amazing. It's always great when I can hear something new like this. Let's keep this going after this vote. Edited by TCat - May 18 2020 at 18:37 |
