Yesesis´s & Mortte`s Album Thread

That was very good. Here are my notes..

Sweet Little Sixteen - all time classic.
Blue Feeling - smooth and good instrumental
La Juanda - spicy latin flavored song
Rockin' at the Philharmonic - pretty cool instrumental
Oh Baby Doll - some rock and roll
Guitar Boogie - rockin and rollin on that guitar!
Reelin' and Rockin - Classic. rock and roll!
Rock and Roll Music - Classic obviously
How You've Changed - Smooth
Low Feeling - Very smooth, good
It Don't Take but a Few Minutes - sounded very retro even for a 50's song. good stuff. My favorite on the album.

He's good with those slower, smooth songs.. and obviously really good(great) with the early rock and roll stuff. VERY talented guy. I can see why he was and is such a GIANT of early rock and roll.

Well, no one is going to concerts these days.

Ethiopiques 13 & 14, Woodstock Experience

Ethipiques are great French series of Ethiopian music mostly from 60-70ties. Nro 13 has various artists, really love all the songs in it! Great detail in this compilation is that Finnish Piirpauke leader Sakari Kukko played flute on one track. World was small already in the seventies. Nro 14 is fully saxplayer Getatchew Mekuryas music. I think he was the only saxplayer in Ethiopia making career as instrumental jazz (in Ethiopia those times and really still today music always has vocals). He´s music is really hypnotic, has often great groove, but there are also really sad pieces with waltz rhythm. Not very easy to listen, but some pieces are really great! The last CD I listened in work was cheap compilation about live and studio pieces from the first Woodstock artists. Interesting is, that there are songs also from Fleetwood Mac, Yardbirds, the Nice, the Small Faces and really unknown Twice as Much, that weren´t in Woodstock. So maybe the name of CD didn´t mean that festival? Anyway quite good music also in this!

Pere Ubu: The Modern Dance

I really start to repeat myself, but THIS IS MASTERPIECE! I put my earlier list their "Art Of Walking"-album, but their five first albums are masterpieces! And have to say this album is a great starter, it´s the most straightforward in those five and you will find out, do you love them or hate them! David Thomas voice is also that kind you hate or love it. Although this band has some Beefheart-influences (at least in "Real World" in this album), also some Stooges influences in this album, it´s very hard to compare to any other band (maybe Red Krayola). Also, info for you Yesesis, both Pere Ubu and Krayola are US bands (if you didn´t know).

Blind Willie Johnson: Praise God I´m Satisfied

This album sounded today incredible great! I don´t think it´s just this man plays gosbel, he had a style of his own in his vocals and great bottleneck guitar also in secular songs! Tom Waits sounds like him in many songs, not sure was Tom influenced by him. Got no information who´s made originally "Nobody´s Fault But Mine", but anyway Zeppelin´s much more famous version´s lyrics are based on Blind Willie´s great song. Also, have to tell his stepmother threw lye into his face and he became blind at the age of three or four and still he sang "Praise God I´m Satisfied". I think many of us should learn positive life attitude from him (me too). At the moment I am really satisfied I have all senses (little tinnitus is just nothing) and healthy hands & feet!

Ok a couple filler songs, but all in all I'd say that was still quite good.

Moving - great. The Saxophone Song too. Kite had a little more energy.
The Man with the Child in His Eyes was slower but good
Wuthering Heights - slower but very good
James and the Cold Gun - more modern sounding, reminded me of a lot of some early 80's songs.
Oh To Be In Love - really cool, probably my favorite on the album.
L'Amour Looks Something Like You - oh this one's really good too.
Them Heavy People - Ok this one too.
Room For The Life - filler
Title track - slow... but good

Yeah I liked that. Hard to really compare it to anything that I can think of. She has a very unique voice.

First compilation I got about 20 years ago from my brother, not sure where he´s got it, I think he was in work at some music department then. It has not very known artists of Mute-records. I have thought that label got many great ones, but when started to think, got only Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds & Jon Spencer Blues Explosion in my mind. And really this cd didn´t make that picture better. Most are ok, but only Chrome & Jon Spencer pieces are good. Second compilation includes alternative/underground acts from Finland from nineties. They´re mostly quite cheerful punky bands, but only Atom Heart (nothing to do with that great Floyd album), Cosmic Goblins & Thee Ultra Bimboes were the ones I really liked. Third also has Finnish alternative etc. bands but is all the way much better and more versatile compilation, liked already many years bands like Terveet Kädet, Ympyräkonnat (this shortlived band has members from Circle & Deep Turtle) and Kumikameli.

Faust: Fresh Air

This is their latest album from 2017, it´s almost as great as their first four albums! The greatest piece is ending piece "Fish", it´s really meditative and has so great lyrics! Faust is the band among Magma & VdGG that has keep doing really great music also in 2000`s! Really hope I will have change to see them! Just watched they played concert yesterday in UK, maybe it has been streaming.

New Trolls: Senza Orario, Senza Bandiera

Have to say I liked that Le Orme first album much more! This is some kind of mix of Beatles and Italian "schlager" (maybe slightly Moodies & Procol also there). It´s recorded very poorly, vocals are really top and I don´t like singers voice and his some kind opera-style at all! Not sure, should I even try Concerto Grosso (seem to be same singer in it). Music is not bad, but nothing special in it.

Ok, big night tonight(for me). So what album do I most want to listen to? Hmmm...

Kiss debut album? Countdown to Ecstasy? The Slider? The Bends? MDK?

And the answer is... for tonight... The Bends!!!
