I think Animals is their best, but I wont deny DSOTM is a perfect album. If that was their last album, it would probably be top 3 on this website.

I aint going barmy. The pixie who lives in my underwear drawer has comfirmed my sanity...but she agrees with me, DSOTM is closer to AOR than it is to psychedelic or symphonic prog....animals is far better...

I think Wish You Were Here is the overrated one. Just doesn't have the same punch as Animals or DSOTM or even meddle I guess.

I didn't see this before. It might have helped to contextualise your poll. Dark Side of the Moon is first and foremost to me a classic Art Rock album. I wouldn't describe it as symphonic prog, not sure who does, which is hardly a bad thing in my books, and has psychedelic and space rock qualities. Earlier albums are where I'd call the band much more psychedelic, and my favourite Pink Floyd albums are the pre-Dark Side on the Moon albums (my favourite being Atom Heart Mother).   Animals is more of a Prog Art Rock album to me than Dark Side of the Moon. At one time Animals was my favourite Pink Floyd album, but that changes depending on the time and mood. I love earlier music such as "The Embryo". and the "Atom Heart Mother" suite I've called my favourite thing released by Pink Floyd (I know certain Pink Floyd members have been dismissive of it, but I found that disrespectful and dishonorable to Ron Geesin, who I think did fantastic work with the doodlings he was given).

To each his or her own tastes. I have a problem with terms such as better often, as ultimately it's often just a subjective statement framed as objective. One can talk better when comparing apples and apples and discussing very specific qualities, such as that acclaimed concert pianist's performance of a Liszt work was technically better than that 3 year old beginner's attempt.

Just because an album is more Prog doesn't make me like or respect it more -- I do have a certain respect for the truly progressive, but a lot of Prog is not very progressive, and can sound downright generic (even if that is prog generic). Anyway, such discussions feel kind of pointless to me now even if I still write about such stuff. Notions of subjectivity vs. objectivity for instance have been discussed so much and we don't seem to achieve a consensus on these matters, or how "best" to use certain terms in our writings here. Ten again, maybe the point is just to keep writing even if it's all been said before as a distraction from daily life and as a means of socialisation.

And again my wife is reminding me that I have a work that needs doing ASAP. I mostly post as an exercise in procrastination and to get the brain juices flowing out my ears, onto the floor, then mopped up and flushed away, which is where those juices belong.

The entirety of Pink Floyd's catalogue is overrated (in progressive rock.)
I'm prepared for my house to be egg'd and toilet-papered.

Fragile at number 11, hell no. Way too much fluff on that album, wouldn’t put it anywhere near the top 100. Just my opinion.
Uhhh, you do know this is simply a number crunching exercise.  If you gotta problem with it you have a problem the way people have voted in the aggregate. Confused

Average rating: The classic calculation of the average but more weight is affected to the rating of progarchives.com collaborators and to rating with reviews.

- Rating only: Weight = 1
- Review by members : Weight = 10
- Review by PA Collaborators : Weight = 20

20 to 1? Not fair in my opinion. And Miles and all jazz-rock/fusion will never be prog for me.

Interesting point, would you change 1 to 5 or lower collaborator influence? Or both?
All votes should have equal rate.

Sorry, but if someone can't type 100 words to prove they have even listened to the album they are rating, then there is really no reason to apply any weight at all to their rating. 5% is an entitlement as far as I'm concerned.

I would have loved to see OK Computer, Kid A, Tago Mago, Neu! (s.t.), Tubular Bells, Another Green World, Freak Out! and Low in the top 100.

Yeah I agree with some of those picks, I guess around here it isn't "cool" to like radiohead ^ (even though those albums you listed by them are actually some very progressive albums)

Kind Of Blue, while an incredible album, pretty obviously doesn't belong on a list of progressive rock albums. I'm all for fusion being included, but allowing Kind Of Blue to count as a prog album is carrying it too far. It's cool jazz through and through, and I doubt you find many jazz heads who would call it prog rock.
Porg for short. My love of music doesn't end with prog! Feel free to discuss all sorts of music with me. Odds are I'll give it a chance if I haven't already! :)
