If you'd like to journey with me through MARBLE HALLS and go with the ORINOCO FLOW, why not spare some AMARANTINE love for Enya. Now's your chance to be a WILD CHILD and PAINT THE SKY WITH STARS in shades of CARIBBEAN BLUE. ONLY TIME will tell if we'll ever have A DAY WITHOUT RAIN in the BOOK OF DAYS when the only WATERMARK we can rely on are TRAINS AND WINTER RAINS. ANYWHERE IS better than being stuck outdoors like an EXILE with DRIFTING dark thunderclouds overhead. IT'S IN THE RAIN falling like tears ON MY WAY HOME when I recall the distant STORMS IN AFRICA. As EVENING FALLS under the light of those SHEPHERD MOONS tonight, THE MEMORY OF TREES in blossom reminds me that spring is on the way, AND WINTER CAME and quickly went again this year.....
==================================================================== If you haven't already guessed, this is an Enya Appreciation thread in all but name. It was originally intended as a Make Your Own Enya Album thread, but there are just too many great Enya songs and videos to choose from.

I’ve always rather liked Enya. That first album was something special.

Orinoco Flow on the second album is my favourite Enya song. It's hard to choose a favourite Enya album though, as I like them all equally.

Seeing as this was originally intended as a Make Your Own Album thread, these are the eight favourite songs I would have chosen from each of Enya's eight albums:-
1. The Celts (Enya) 2. Orinoco Flow (Watermark) 3. Caribbean Blue (Shepherd Moons) 4. Anywhere Is (The Memory of Trees) 5. Wild Child (A Day Without Rain) 6. Amarantine (Amarantine) 7. Trains and Winter Rains (And Winter Came) 8. Echoes in Rain (Dark Sky Island)

I have the self-titled, Watermark, and Shepherd Moons albums, plus Paint the Sky with Stars on a mix of CDs and one cassette somewhere around the house (or actually, I think I lost one of those CDs when I got rid of a car). And I've heard The Memory of Trees (took it out from the library in the 90s). I haven't really listened to Enya much in many years, but I used to enjoy Enya a lot. My favourite album of hers was the self-titled, which reminded me of the related Clannad. "Robin, Robin, the hooded man."
I can't easily do a proper list now as it's been so long, but "Caribbean Blue", "Aldebaran", "Triad: St. Patrick / Cu Chulainn / Oisin", "The Celts", To Go Beyond","Orinoco Flow" and "March of the Celts" might all be amongst my faves of what I know, and perhaps "Storms In Africa" as well. Th first song I remember hearing of hers was "Orinoco Flow" when I was living in Cairns, Australia -- it has some sentimental attachment. Enya was one of the rare music things that I introduced my wife to that she liked (that and Kitaro). Edited by Logan - March 17 2020 at 23:57 |

Hi Logan. "Orinoco Flow" was the first song I ever heard by Enya too and I recall it topped the UK charts. I've since bought all eight of her studio albums and two compilation albums too.
I also like Kitaro. I posted a couple of his concerts on my World Music thread.

Watermark was something special as already said. Just absolutely beautiful. I only found out much later that she is the younger sister of the lead singer of Clannad (Maire Brennan). BTW I share a birthday with her (although I am a year younger … wonder if she would like a toy boy) Edited by richardh - March 18 2020 at 15:32 |

Hmm....like so many bought the 'Orinoco Flow' lp....Watermark....played it for awhile...dumped it later.
Pleasant enough voice I suppose ,but it always sounded like a tame Vangelis with her on vocals. Once I started hearing it in elevators and shopping malls...well...

I quite liked the music to series 'The Celts' but apart from that.. hmm.. not my thing. Apparently she owns a big chunk of Donegal (North western Ireland) ;);) But I think the Brennan family are pretty big and long established there..

Shephard Moons is a great album. Unfortunately that's the only one I have heard by her.

If you like Enya's Shepherd Moons album, then there's a good chance you'll like her other albums too, as they're all up to the same consistently high standard. I'd recommend Enya's compilation album, Paint the Sky with Stars, as a good starting point, which also includes the song, Paint the Sky with Stars, which doesn't appear on any other Enya album. Here's another couple of official Enya videos, this time from the "And Winter Came" album:- 1. Trains and Winter Rains 2. White is in the Winter Night |
