Echolyn's self-titled album, with Until All the Ghosts Are Gone, English Electric (Part One) and Grimspound as runners-up.

Ah, the one from 2012. You had me confused there for a bit as I was only familiar with their self-titled debut from all the way back in 1991!

I'd drifted away from prog in the last 10 years, but I remember well how excited I was for this one -

Actually I (re)listened to the whole of it just few months ago and enjoyed it immensely!

Not sure how I missed that the first time.

Particularly as I own the album

I just listened to the title track, a 16-minute epic. Immaculately played and put together, and with a lot more JR/F in the mix than I was expecting (not a bad thing at all...) but in the end it didn't really float my boat. As a lyricist Andy Tillson seems to be of the Roger Waters school of telling us at great length about The Evils of The System and I can’t really be arsed with that unless the writing's exceptional.

The thing I enjoyed most was Jonas Reingold's bass playing, I could listen to him all day.

That is the weakest track on the CD....still brilliant tho...Tillison is preaching to his contemporaries, he would deffo been my best mate if we were school mates....his cover notes always strike a chord with my formative years....

This is really good - not that I'm surprised! Not easy to describe though, folk and psych elements prominent, but part of quite an unusual blend.

Here's a couple of tracks:

My love affair with Finnish music continues.
Really great to hear you liked it too!! Risto was really interesting band before this their fourth album, but this album really hit me when it came! And it still sounds just great! All the tracks are really good, but you picked really great two (I will add this with it´s very interesting video):

Impossible to list just one. Incredible decade for music. Enjoy listening to it, Simon!
I remember this album generating quite a lot of buzz when it came out, but for whatever reason I didn't get around to checking it out.

Listening now. There's an impressive density to what's going on here, with a rapid turnover of ideas. Also lots and lots of words! The first track comes in at just under 13 minutes and feels a bit like a whole album's worth of material compacted into one song.

I think I'm going to dig this, but it's going to take a little time to absorb...

I already know Neal Morse isn't really my bag, but gave the first tracks of this a blast anyway to make sure. Same result; à chacun son goût, I guess.

ÄNGLAGÅRD Viljans Öga, 2012 I believe. I actually prefer this to their two previous albums...this album is heavy and spooky!!! (and a wonderful recording, very organic!)

This is my favourite Änglagård album, and I had considered it for top album of the decade.

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

Tough one, gotta go with Wobblers From Silence to Somewhere very closely followed by All Traps On Earth, Blackstar and Hand Cannot Erase.

An exceptionally strong album for sure, and one that still gets plays at my house. Epilog remains my favourite Anglagard album though; high in the all-time pantheon of mainstream prog albums for me.

Wobbler’s FSTS is now in pole position as the only album picked more than once!

Takes several listens to reap the rewards. Don't give up. No other band like them. Band mates have day jobs, playing music is a hobby for them.
