^ I doubt that I can find the source but I recall a quote from Annie saying that she had just broken up with Roy Wood and was too emotionally distraught to sing a song above love at that time, as it was the last song to be recorded for the album due to the elaborate (yuck) orchestration. Go figure.

She is Love is an example of a song that could have been good or better but was totally botched.  Even someone without musical training could detect this.  Speaking as an old guy, one often remembers events in a way that is less than accurate if not entirely falsified without bad intent, so it could well be that both believe their answers to be correct.

^ Absolutely. My brother and I have differing recollections to things that only involve us from umpteen years ago.

Absolutely, don't think either of them intends to lie. I trust JC's account a tad more here because I have seen many instances of Annie forgetting stuff or misremembering events.

Anyways I'm much more interested in "Kindness at the End" and how that came to be.  Did Jon sneak into the studio one night and play all the tracks on his own?  Fantastic song that is often overlooked, and sadly does not appear to have ever been played live.   Did the others even know he had this song in the can or did he just spring it on them?   As I mentioned before, the lyrics really spoke to me as a young person who had been dealing with unrequited love, and also believed that all I would ever have was those memories.  They turned out to be prophetic if not self fulfilling  Ouch

^ "Kindness" is definitely a universal broken hearted  Broken Heart  love song and has some of Camp's best lyrics. Perhaps because they were so heartfelt.

I don't know whether this BBC Sight & Sound concert from 1977 has already been posted here, featuring the classic Renaissance line-up, but just in case it hasn't, here's a whole hour of Renaissance Live from the Golders Green Hippodrome in London for us all to enjoy. Smile

And here's a far more recent Renaissance concert from the Union Chapel, London in 2015, featuring a brand new line-up with Annie Haslam still there at centre-stage. Smile

Thanks! That's probably the first compliment I've had from you. Wink I hope you enjoy the second Renaissance concert too from as recently as 2015.

I'm hoping that's the first time anyone's posted those two Renaissance concerts on this thread. It would have taken me far too long to go back through all 33 pages to check. Smile

One of the main advantages of watching YouTube music videos on Prog Archives is there are no annoying ads to interrupt the music and I can watch them in full screen mode on a 40-inch TV screen, if I view them on Google Chrome instead of Internet Explorer 9. Smile

Oh, I can tell you're trying. You're just awkward with discussions. You take things too personally or critically when they're not meant to be. We all can't like the same artists and music here, but we can co-exist fairly civilly.

Yes, I've been told I can be very trying at times. Wink

We may have posted and discussed these concerts before. But it's alright. It's become a long thread. And can do with a few periodical bumps.

And, thanks to southsideofthesky, news of a rerelease of Turn of the Cards, incorporating one previously unreleased track, various remixes, the live at the Academy of Music 1974 show on 2 CDs, and a surround sound DVD of the original album

Fantastic cover of Ashes Are Burning. Definitely the best Renaissance cover I have heard.

Wonder if this is the singer Annie once referred to as accompanying her in the Brazil solo tour.

Clap This is great but it's the only cover of Ashes Are Burning I've ever heard. I should have spent more time in Brazil! LOL

I must assume that with a fiddle player this group does a lot of Curved Air covers too.

^^  There are a couple others floating on the net.

This one is very average.

This one is far more professional but kinda slick for my taste.  Also, the singer avoids actually belting out that note and sings it in a head voice.  The singer of Ashtar actually went for the note and nailed it.

Meanwhile, a nice video that compiles noteworthy notes (high and low) hit by Annie over the years.  By selecting a cross section of old and new stuff, it ends up also showcasing her repertoire.
