Hello again ,

I see that my earlier post on playing bass has been used up; however, I wish to request some information from you experienced bassists. I would like to be able to be like my bass idols and make cool bass solos like Chris Squire's on "Yours is No Disgrace", like Glenn Cornick on "Bouree" or even like Geddy Lee's on "The Trees." I've begun to sort of practice formation of chords and how to do different chord arpeggios on the bass to give me some knowledge to create some basslines. Though I would like to know what I should really be learning and practicing, theory wise and technique wise, to make those oh so wonderful prog basslines.

Please help me

I would recommend that you know what key the bassline you are creating is in, and do variations of that key. Usually that will sound cool.

Hi there the best advice i could give you would be to jam with other like minded musicians.

That way you will develop your own unique style and you will learn how the bass fits in to the band. Also playing will become a second language to you and you will be able to speak from your soul using the bass as your voice. Good luck and enjoy. Rael 39

A lot of improvising around the structure of the song
works best for me. I find that a lot of times my
"mistakes" are the best stuff. Figuring out other players
lines also works well. You never know what might rub off,
a technique, a riff, a sound. Most important thing is to
have fun, and work hard.
Enjoy.
