^ you're forgetting BritBox - so now we have to pay for what are basically repeats of telly programs we used to watch for nothing on iPlayer and whatever the ITV equivalent is called today.

Oh how we used to moan about all the repeats on telly, now we positively revel in them. Funny old world.
What?

I'm guessing this is a USA thing?
Yep there are separate streaming platforms from different companies, The main ones we have access to are
Netflix
Apple TV
Amazon Prime Video
eventually we will get Disney streaming platform as well

in terms of packaged TV (which includes terrestrial channels such BBC , ITV etc)  we have Sky , Virgin and BT as the main players although normally you still have to pay separately for the extra streaming content above although confusingly Sky also have a streaming arm called Now which is basically for people like me who don't have access to their Sky Atlantic channel which is the UK home of top rated US shows such as Watchmen and Ray Donovan.

TV was a lot simpler growing up when all you needed was an aerial to get the only available 3 channels. (although my home town of Swindon was one of the first English towns that pioneered Cable TV , later to be taken over by Virgin)

Annoyingly The Expanse Season 4 doesn't land in the UK until 15 December . I watched the trailer and they are definitely wandering into 2001 A Space Odyssey territory. Can't wait!

I thought he was great in Mothman Prophecies as well. The film would not have been anything like as good without him. The part where he describes an encounter with one of the supernatural creatures totally creeped me out and set the film up perfectly.
It's a long while since I watched No Way Out so will need to revisit that one.

Swamp Thing is also well worth a mention if only for featuring one of my favorite actors Will Patton . DC stuff is ruling at the moment when you also consider Titans , Watchmen and the film Joker.

Been watching..... 'Watchmen' , based on the graphic novels....quite a bit different from the film.
It's weird but not that engaging so far.

I very rarely come on this forum but interesting to read some of the recent comments. I watch a ton of TV (way too much to be healthy tbh) but then I enjoy it and I have a lovely great big 4HD TV to watch stuff on. Of the shows mentioned on this page I will summarise

Stranger Things - absolutely love although Season 2 was better than Season 3
Dark Crystal Age Of Resistance - very enjoyable indeed. Incredible visuals
Carnival Row - interesting and original and could well grow into something special
The Boys - brilliant and shocking at times although maybe lost its way a tad as the series progressed
American Gods - Didn't enjoy that much probably because I just didn't understand it although Ian McShane kept me watching.
Good Omens - Much better , Pratchett's humour so important!
The Rook - truly terrible , very bad acting (mainly from Joely Richardson) and a real bum note from Starz who are normally so good!
Westworld - My nephews think this is the best ever but I found it more miss than hit and way too cold' to be engaging

Others
See - on the just launched on the Apple TV+ service. First episode is brilliant, the concept is tremendous. Developed and written by 'Mr Peaky Blinders' himself Steven Knight
Gotham - one of my favourite shows but struggling to get through the final season
Lost In Space - I love this and looking forward to S2 . So good they kept the original John Williams theme as well
Black Sails - those with Amazon Prime must watch this
The Badlands - Futuristic kung fu drama with Nick Frost of all people. Incredibly enjoyable
Lucifer - absolute genius and great fun although jumped from Fox to Netflix for S4
The Walking Dead - yes for my sins still watching and enjoying
The Feed - very good stuff but may be hard to find. The idea is that in the near future we can have an implant in our brains that connect to others like a personal internet. David Thewlis is the star actor and does a great job playing a meglomanical IT developer

I guess that will do for now!

Yeah, it was slow in parts.

End of the f**king World ended up winning me over despite the overdosed dysfunction and drama and sadness. It just seems like everything produced now has to be so over the top. I do realize the world is messed up, but It would be nice to watch this kind of a love story that was just toned down a bit...once in a while. But I was impressed by the two lead performances which is what kept me going.

Carnival Row was pretty good, quite dark, a bit graphic as far as blood and guts go, sometimes a little slow, but I liked the way it all comes together.

I've watched some great shows recently.

Carnival Row - Fantasy with a historical feel. Brilliant setting and visual.

End of the f**king World - dark love story. My jury is out...only halfway.

Colony - post apoc alien thriller. entertaining if predictable.

F is for Family - adult animated comedy. 1973. Bill Burr. Think "King of the Hill" for the Northeast suburbs rather than the south.

^ Maybe try Amazon Prime for a change if you haven't already, then can get free membership for a month, but one must remember to cancel it in that time to avoid being charged. I forgot I had it for a year before. I find it has a better selection, but in the US, you have better selection than I do for both Prime and Netflix. I did enjoy The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (very Game of Thrones-ish).

My brother subscribes to a VPN service so he gets lots of variety, including terrific free Australian service (he lives in Perth), but I don't want to do that.

As for Supernatural, I used to watch that regularly when it was quite new, but haven't caught it for quite some time. It's had a long run, and all things must pass. Still, that's a shame.

I'll probably cancel Netflix at some time ere long, and then re-subscribe later (I've had it consistently for the last few years). I'd like to subscribe to HBO again, but probably won't until the new season of Westworld drops next year.

Don't know if I'll subscribe to Canada's Space Channel again -- I seem to have lost interest in Doctor Who (I did in the 80s too). That channel has been doing re-runs of the same shows for many years (so little variety over those years).

Sorry for the double-post, at some discussion sites, double-posting will get you banned, but I finished watching The Boys season one on Amazon Prime (I'm liking that service more than Netflix, so many good movies and interesting series).   I loved this superantihero type drama. While very different, it put in mind another superpowers show that I loved, Misfits, as I mentioned before.

I'm rewatching Good Omens, since I had forged ahead with it without my wife and she wanted to watch it with me (I had thought she might be uncomfortable with it due to her religiosity, but she really likes it despite any heretical leanings of the show, but she is a big David Tennant admirer).

I came across a funny news story about Good Omens.

https://www.theguardian.com/books/2019/jun/20/petition-netflix-cancel-amazon-prime-good-omens-christian-neil-gaiman-terry-pratchett
https://thehill.com/blogs/in-the-know/in-the-know/449513-christians-mistakenly-petition-to-ask-netflix-to-cancel-amazon

It's on Amazon Prime, not a Netflix show.

Originally posted by theguardian theguardian wrote:

...Christians marshalled by the Return to Order campaign, an offshoot of the US Foundation for a Christian Civilisation, disagree. More than 20,000 supporters have signed a petition in which they say that Good Omens is “another step to make satanism appear normal, light and acceptable”, and “mocks God’s wisdom”. God, they complain, is “voiced by a woman” – Frances McDormand – the antichrist is a “normal kid” and, most importantly, “this type of video makes light of Truth, Error, Good and Evil, and destroys the barriers of horror that society still has for the devil”. They are calling on Netflix to cancel the show.

Gaiman responded to the petition on Twitter, writing: “I love that they are going to write to Netflix to try and get #GoodOmens cancelled. Says it all really. This is so beautiful ... Promise me you won’t tell them?”....

Which as far as I'm concerned is all the more reason to support this show.

I re-listened to the BBC radio series of Good Omens, which I adored. I really want to read the novel now. For those who haven't heard the radio series, one can listen to it on dailymotion It's brilliant, my favourite devilishly good radio comedy/ dramedy since Old Harry's Game. https://www.dailymotion.com/playlist/x5xauc

My next viewing pleasure on Amazon Prime will be Carnival Row.

Too much good streaming TV/ webseries these days, and I still primarily stick with audio series.

^ Sounds interesting.

My brother, who lives in Australia, has been visiting to help take care of my ill mother, and he has an Amazon Prime account (I used to too, and plan to again).

I kind of liked American Gods....but I didn't read the book.
I also like Blacklist which is more about crime but Spader is excellent.
I'm also watching two other things:  Ghost Wars and  just finished Preacher.

I've been watching Preacher (an Amazon Prime show) and loving it, and started on a superhero one (also carried by Amazon Prime) called The Boys (sort of superhero show). And it's time I watched more American Gods. By the way, I like Blacklist too and also find Spader excellent.

Like getting into Game of Thrones, I'm late to the party in terms of Preacher (one of the supporting characters was in a much loved by me superpowers show called Misfits, which I have mentioned in this thread).

The trailer for Preacher, season one.

I also want to watch Good Omens very much. I have yet to read the novel (I am a fan of both Gaiman and Pratchett). There was a BBC radio Good Omens series which I enjoyed on the BBC iPlayer radio app not long ago (was re-broadcast in July and is no longer available there as those programs tend to only be available for 30 days).

Kind of old news now, but here is trailer for season three of Westworld:

*

* Note the use of Pink Floyd's "Brain Damage" from Dark Side of the Moon for the trailer.

There is so much good stuff to stream on various services. I'll subscribe to HBO again when Westworld comes out. I'm thinking of stopping Netflix for a while (subscribed to it constantly for several years) and subscribing to some other services.

EDIT: So I watched plenty of Good Omens over the weekend (still have some episodes left to go), and enjoyed it very much.
