This is only a minor point, but I'm just wondering why the Prog-Folk band Magna Carta are listed on here as "Prog-Related" and not as Prog-Folk?

I'd have to dive back into the history, Paul, as those decisions pre date me.  I actually thought they were prog folk, but am quite ok with them being in prog related.  As I mentioned in my review of Lord of the Ages, this was the their most prog album, and it was from 1973, when almost everyone was doing some prog.  I mean, Elton John's "Funeral for a Friend" was probably more prog than anything that Magna Carta ever did.  The rest of their output is pleasant mostly acoustic folk and not especially prog.  Even the side long "Seasons" is only prog for its length.  they are certainly to the prog folk side of prog related, whereas I think Amazing Blondel is on the prog related side of prog folk if you get what I mean.

^^ Thanks for your quick reply. Thumbs Up It was only when I reviewed Magna Carta's "Lord of the Ages" album a couple of days ago that I noticed they were labelled as Prog-Related.

I suppose it depends on which album you listen to. Their "Lord of the Ages" album was the "proggiest" in my opinion, whereas the three albums that preceded it were more Folk-Rock than Prog-Folk.

exactly.  This is all very subjective obviously but another band (whom I mentioned already) who often get criticized for not being prog folk enough is AMAZING BLONDEL.  But their first 4 or 5 albums were rather unique and even groundbreaking at times, with a credible take on Elizabethan folk meets prog.  Magna Carta was pleasant enough with gusts to excellent especially on Lord of The Ages, but there was always that English Simon and Garfunkel thing going on, and those guys were great but not especially prog

I only have one album by Amazing Blondel    "Fantasia Lindum"    which is a  pretty amazing album. Smile

No, I meant that "Lord Of The Ages" was not prog enough. Sort of a prog-lite.

check out "England" as well for more of the same, except they basically describe aspects of the English countryside as if they are portraits.  "Seascape", "Landscape" and "Afterglow".   I think you would love it

Thanks! ProgArchives and YouTube are an amazing resource for discovering new music. I found the Amazing Blondel "Fandasia Lindum" CD  entirely by chance in a record store in Langley Mill, Derbyshire. I asked the store owner if he could play it for me as I'd never heard anything by Amazing Blondel before and I liked the album the instant I heard it. Thumbs Up
