I don't think of Heart as an all female band...That being said, I am going with The Bangles, who I did quite enjoy (esp their debut), I liked that they didn't "play like girls," (albeit many of the female punk rockers didn't either, but I prefer a bit more sophistication, even if poppy....despite the fact that I loved their attitude).  I saw them once in LA, Prince sat in for a bit with them that night.  1984, it was.  I always felt kind of sorry for The Runaways with their involvement with Kim Fowley.  Also enjoyed Ace of Cups, with my penchant for psych, they recently released some new material.

I was going to call my poll "All-Female Rock Bands" originally, but then decided to change it to "Female Rock Bands", just so I could include Heart in the poll, who might just go on to win it. Smile

I would vote for Heart since I like them but I don't think it would be fair since I'm not familiar with all the bands listed.

Ah, you could have put Fleetwood Mac in then and they would have won.

I voted for Ace of Cups, mainly because they're the only Psychedelic Rock band in my poll, although Heart comes a close second. Smile

Definitely check out the band I mentioned on the previous page, Mother Superior(who happen to be listed on this site). They sort of straddled the line between rock and prog but more importantly they were good. You can find them on youtube. Unfortunately, like Fanny, they never became very well known. The Shaggs are much more known which shows there's no justice in the world(well at least the music world)Wink

I never heard of the Ace of cups so I'll have to check them out.

Yeah, I was quite a fan back in the day. I loved their raw edge. I fancied the drummer too!

Oh, I think I just saw that the poll was up and didn't look at the exact title, I'd remembered the discussion before it was posted...My apologies to Heart, but still going with The Bangles.  Always like an underdog to the potentially most popular.

Moved the poll. I probably didn't explain well in the second Psych poll, if the poll is not focused on Prog (bands included in Prog categories at Prog Categories -- Edit, I mean in Prog categories at Prog Archives), then it's better placed in General Music Discussions.

Like Tapfret, OOIOO would get my vote if included. There are oo many female Japanese rock bands, also Angel'in Heavy Syrup is worth mentioning. And Ars Nova is a popular one around these parts.

As to my vote with the given choices, I honestly love The Shagg's Philosophy of the World. Sometimes bad can be so good.

Thanks for moving my poll over here. Thumbs Up

Multiple votes should have been allowed, so I could vote for both Girlschool and Heart. Wink

Logan mentioned to me that multiple voting might be abused by some members voting for several bands at a time, so I prefer to keep my polls to just one vote each, otherwise you might have some PA members voting for half a dozen bands and another member voting for just one band. It seems fairer to me this way with one person, one vote, just like politics. Wink

Not only that but with multiple votes allowed, there is no indication that one has voted. So if after some time has passed one forgets that they have voted, then upon seeing the "Cast My Vote" button, may vote for the same choice multiple times.

The New York Dolls. They were some very homely women, but they had attitude.

to take the place of the mud shark in your mythology...

Only if the majority of those bands are found in the Archives under a Prog category (a prog Rock focus as used in PA). It's not just about psychedelic rock, but acts deemed psychedelic progressive rock. That said, I have moved a little outside of the PA box when making Prog polls by including ones in a longer list not in PA if I felt they fit (technically, all options in prog polls should be included in Prog categories in PA).

I'm still mystified as to who that half-naked man is holding the gun in your new avatar image. Even Freddie Mercury wouldn't have dressed that outrageously. Tongue
