WARNING!!! If you are at all squeamish please join another thread

ok ...  here's a couple of questions which hopefully won't cause you too much discomfort

  1. If you were having  to undergo painful surgery/medical intervention where you were still conscious  (trip to dentist, wisdom tooth extraction, body piercing, wart removal etc ) ,  what   would you choose to listen to during the event to take your mind of things ...assuming of course that you don't enjoy pain 
  2. what music would you choose to accompany your journey out of this world ?

The reason I asked the question is that I recently had oral surgery (now 2 teeth lighter). I played Roger Waters In The Flesh ... comfortably numb did not even describe it! The drilling seemed to coincide with the searing guitars and well, it DID take my mind off things.

As for the second question ... probably Godspeed You Black Emperor's Yanqui UXO  or  Lift Your Skinny Fists ... or if I'm going to die quickly probably their EP Riot for New Zero Kanada

Since you mention dentist, "Valium 10" by Hawkwind begins with a male voice saying: "Now, I don't want you to panic. Just lean back and relax", after which you can hear the sound of a dentist drill and someone shrieking and gurgling in pain. Probably not the best track to listen to before a visit to a dentist.

I was recently thinking about what the last song I would want to listen to would be, and decided on CTTE.  It's just somehow special to me. It makes me cry every time.

  • whatever the doctor wants - its more important they are comfortable than me!

    hey, I like your first choice very much ... I'll remember that for next time I'm at the dentist  ... as for the second point, COULDN'T AGREE MORE. Maybe get the Dr to play his/her favourite stuff

    1. yea Renaissance are criminally underated here
    2. defintately want the Dr. comfortable (unless he chooses Punk or Rap - that's not a Dr. I trust!)
    3. yea - Lizard has stunnign artwork I'd love to get a poster of that, it really is georgeous (great album as well)

    Actually, I do have some  Pallas ... not that one though ... too 80's for me ... later stuff is a bit of an improvement. ....

    EDIT - is that CD called Instinctive Traveller rather than Astral btw?

    For me, I'd says Tangerine Dream for both. Force Majeure for the first and Zeit for the second. Some Klaus Schulze might also be great...
