Maybe not from a strict and rigid interpretation of what prog-rock is, but their experimental phase sure was close to progressive rock IMO.

Progressive = YES, absolutely!

Prog Rock = Possibly "Being For the Benefit of Mr Kite!" or even "Day in the Life", but nothing else - including "Tomorrow Never Knows" or "Revolution #9".

Hmm, i don't know if i'd consider the beatles prog rock (probably not), but I consider caps lock users annoying

have you listened to Magical Mystery Tour or Abbey
Road? remember this is still the 1960's which
started in 1966-67.
The Beatles Anthology 3 gives us outtakes from
some of their zenith years. If you listen to this a few
times you will realize that they could do anything at a
whim that surpasses all but a few artists could do for
a career for the the next 2 generations. They could
actually play with toy with hits to be, change the
words,instrumentation, time changes, delivery and
low and behold still have a hit, it was incredible. You
should really listen to this as it is more mind
boggling than anything Pink Floyd, Yes, ELP, or
Genesis in the years to come. If you already have
then you are entitled to your opionion but face it with
an open mind!
They may not deserve your respect.

But THIS IS THE BIRTH OF PROGRESSIVE ROCK,
no matter what they did later.

I agree. The term Prog to me means a specific kind of music,something which is clearly defined by certain trademarks,like Reggae or Country & Western,not someone who just happen to sound a bit different from the herd. Beatles had none of the trademarks of Prog,so they're not a Prog band. Without long,epic tracks,unusual/tricky time signatures,long instrumental parts,sections leading into each other like in classical music,I don't think it can be call Prog.

I do as well...the Beatles were progressive for sure, but they have nothing to do with the genre progressive Rock (I explained it in the "Difference between Prog and progressive" (or similar) thread)
