in no specific order; I only number them to keep track. I give the original titles with English titles in brackets (I definitely prefer movies in the original language). and, as always, only one movie per director:

1) Jean-Luc Godard - Week-end (1967)
2) Wolf Rilla - Village of the Damned (1960)
3) Roman Polanski - Repulsion (1965)
4) Michael Powell - Peeping Tom (1960)
5) Federico Fellini - La Dolce Vita (1960)
6) Volker Schlöndorff - Der junge Törless (Young Törless) (1962)
7) François Truffaut - Tirez sur le pianiste (Shoot the Pianist) 1960
8) Henri Verneuil - Le clan de Siciliens (The Sicilian Clan) 1969
9) Alfred Hitchcock - Marnie (1964)
10) Luis Buñuel - El ángel exterminador (The Exterminating Angel) (1962)
11) Fritz Lang - Die 1000 Augen des Dr. Mabuse (The Thousand Eyes of Dr. Mabuse) (1960)
12) Alain Resnais - L'Année dernière à Marienbad (Last Year at Marienbad) (1961)
13) Rainer Werner Fassbinder - Liebe ist kälter als der Tod (Love is Colder than Death) (1969)
14) John Ford - The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962)
15) Sergio Leone - C'era una volta il West (Once Upon a Time in the West) (1968)
16) John Huston - The Misfits (1961)
17) Akira Kurosawa - 用心棒 (Yojimbo) (1961)
18) Stanley Kubrick - 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
19) Alexander Kluge - Die Artisten in der Zirkuskuppel: Ratlos (Artists Under the Big Top: Perplexed) (1968)
20) Orson Welles - The Trial (1962)
21) John Sturges - The Hallelujah Trail (1965)
22) George Roy Hill - Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969)
23) Howard Hawks - Hatari! (1962)
24) Blake Edwards - The Pink Panther (1963)
25) David Lean - Lawrence of Arabia (1962)

My lilsting, from that time, includes most of the "great" directors, although I would have a hard time choosing a Fellini, or Antonioni, for example, or even a Bergman, but in general, this was a great time for a lot of French Cinema, and Francois Truffaut kinda deserves to be there, but selecting one of his films is tough.

I might add Sam Peckinpah's The Wild Bunch (1969)

Stanley Kubrick should be there, and 2001 is a natural, although I think that there is some stuff in there, that is nebulous and I would have liked to see it cleaned up so the whole thing makes more sense, instead of the jumbled mess the film really is, even though we remember the music and the moments so well ...

I've seen or heard of everything you've seen except "The Bedford Incident"..

Maybe it's because half were made outside the US, and 10 specifically are non-English?

^ That could be. I actually Googled some of the ones on your list & they look interesting, I'll have to check them out.

The Bedford Incident is good. Cold war drama about a cat and mouse game between an American Destroyer & a Russian Submarine.

Also I forgot The Sand Pebbles on my list. Should make an edit but then something would have to go.

And the trick to catching many of those 60's films is to go after them, even if they are not English speaking ... I was just thinking of Zorba, and some films from the further end of the earth ... that so few people remember, or have ever seen.

Today, there are a lot of foreign films around, but the distribution process is a serious issue right now ... both Hulu and Netflix are not interested in them because their "series" makes more money for them than those films do ... and the net, in general, is a fudging mess of murder and rape when it comes to showing many of these films ... so Amazon wants "Prime" for you and then a few for you to watch a film ... and I end up not seeing it.

Scorcese used to have a web site that showed some of these older films for free, and they have seemed to close it down ... after all ... martin won't do anything unless it has big money attached to it! And Tarantino is a fake/wannabe fan of foreign films ... he only copies their ideas and visuals ... he's what we call in film school "lame", a director that has little talent and just mixes things for the fun of it .. and that makes him a director!

This may be of interest to all you movie buffs. I just recently catalogued my 1000+ film collection and got familiar with the Rate Your Music film section of the site.

Here's the top films of the 60s rated by the users. Personally i can't make lists like this.

Here's the top 10

12001: A Space Odyssey
2Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo [The Good, the Bad and the Ugly]
3切腹 [Harakiri]
4Persona
5Psycho
6Dr. Strangelove, or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
7Cera una volta il West [Once Upon a Time in the West]
8Андрей Рублёв [Andrei Rublev]

Jason and the Argonauts was impressive for its effects and the actor who played Jason sounds just like Elaine’s boss from Seinfeld. The Titan, the Hydra, the Harpies, Poseidon, Hera, the Skeletons ... just amazing effects for the time. But, there was something truly creepy about when the bronze statue Talos moves his head. Even today, that scene sends chills down my spine.

One of my favorites, that scene with Talos is one of the scariest moments in pulp cinema.

Jason sounds like Mr. Peterman ?
