This one is really bad, so much so it makes me laugh.

The back cover of the album has some more photos like that:

The band obviously enjoyed that photo shoot.

My vote for worst album cover goes to a compilation album of Birth Control:

The band apparently had a liking for bad taste album covers; here two more examples:

Yup, Germany surely ran away with the Olympic gold medal of tacky artwork cover during the 70's LOL

@Sean Trane:-Yes, it seems the German Prog-Rock bands of the 1970's had a particular knack for coming up with the most dreadful album covers, including Brainstorm, Missus Beastly & Birth Control. Smile

@BaldFriede:- It made me "Smile a While" longer, when I saw the dreadful back cover of Brainstorm's album. Smile

There's no way this gets my vote, because it's meant to be be tongue-in-cheek. Love Beach, on the other hand, was by a major band, so that makes it 100x worse!!

This ties with Brainstorm as the worst for me.

Well, if it were the BONZO DOG BAND, or THE WHO, everyone would think that the cover was a classic and a great Hipgnosis cover ... but they had more class and used better flash, and a couple of other nice photos instead for a couple of their covers ... much sexier!

I won't even bother listening to the album ... for some reason, it just felt ... why bother?

@Progmatic:- That album cover with men in ballet dresses is a good contender for worst Prog album cover, but my eyesight's not good enough to see the name of the artist or the title of the album. Smile

You are keeping yourself from a good listening experience; the album is a solid 4 star album.

Here the title track:

^ for me it's a 5 star album. Never judge an album by its cover. Music is a 5 and cover is a 1/2 star.

@BaldFriede and SillyPuppy:- You're right! Brainstorm's "Smile a While" is a classic German Jazz-Rock album.

BTW, i agree with BaldFriede. As a band, Birth Control consistently sucked for album cover art. They win the tacky cover award.

An interesting side information about the album: The title of the 4th track is given as "Bosco Biati weiß alles" on the album cover. The correct title would however be "Bosko Biati kennt Alles". Mark that "Bosko" is written with a "K" here. This title would refer to a card trick, in which 20 cards (10 identical pairs, so each card appears twice) are placed in 4 rows of 5 cards each. One person has to pick a pair and tell in which rows the two cards appear (example given: 1st and 3rd row). The other person will then immediately tell which pair was chosen.

If you look at "Bosko Biati Kennt Alles" closely you will notice that the sentence consists of 10 different letters that each appear twice. This does of course tell how the trick is done.

Since both the correct and the wrong title mean the same in German it is easy to see how the mistake was made.

In the example given it would be the pair of cards placed on the positions of the letter "K".
