What's the worst album cover you've ever seen for a Prog-Rock band?
My vote goes to the German band Brainstorm for their 1972 album "Smile a While" Edited by Psychedelic Paul - September 24 2019 at 14:54 |

Worst covers are (nearly) always pseudo-intellectual, vainly plugged away ones for me. In Turkish culture, there is a general tendency to respect and make people respect "the effort", notwithstanding the product/outcome or/and what you think about it. I ferociously oppose that. It is far worse to see an excessively worked on crap. Especially when one is faking smartness. Leprous, overall, what a crap altogether. Edited by Odvin Draoi - September 24 2019 at 14:52 |

Leprous thing? It should mean lots of things to lots of people. I prefer my plain lemon tea with melissa leaves.

If that Brainstorm had women in it instead of men nobody would think it was bad. Lol. Even though I won't suggest anyone is homophobic because they hate it I do think it would be better if the album was called bra storm(regardless if men or women were on it)since that would make more sense.

It sounds like a bra storm in a D-cup.
If the Brainstorm album cover had featured women instead of men, I probably would have bought the album just on the strength of the album cover alone.

I know exactly what you mean, Manuel. The album cover is both dreadful and funny at the same time.
It makes Queen's cross-dressing video for "I Want To Break Free" look relatively tame by comparison.

I'm going for another German band with two of the worst album covers ever, Missus Beastly...

He neither drank, smoked, nor rode a bicycle. Living frugally, saving his money, he died early, surrounded by greedy relatives. It was a great lesson to me -- John Barrymore

A cover doesn't have to "make sense". Leprous cover is just like their music. Forced creativity, which is actually faking intellectuality. It can be seen as "surreal", like after consuming magic mushrooms haha. I respect your perception, yet as I said everything about Leprous seems pretentious to me. I think Death - Spiritual Healing is an impactful portrayal of extreme religiousness. Very American and very Stephen King-esque. |

My definition is related to their works, albeit not excluding how the majority sees them as "groundbreaking", "creative", "progressive" or even "the best and most sophisticated prog metal band of the 2000s". Edit: Or to be more clear, they perhaps "had to" force it, to make a difference in the genre; just like Mastodon. Otherwise they had had no chance of "breaking the majority's ground" with their theoretical musical (in)competence and dysfunctional ideas. Sorry but, without integrity, I refuse to be impressed. All creativity is forced. That's what makes something new otherwise it's called "repeating what's been done." Personally i love Leprous but then again i dig avant-prog and other so-called forced creative efforts. I prefer to view it as explorative :)

If a change or progression(?) is lacking integrity, it is better not to produce anything. That is my philosophy. I'm not generalizing all the avant-garde, experimental stuff. I was just talking about Leprous and Mastodon.

So why do you deem what they do as lacking integrity? A very subjective term. Just because you don't personally like them doesn't mean they killed a thousand people and drank their blood in order to come up with some new ideas. It's just not your taste. Simple as that.

It's not my taste, and those mentioned are my ideas and grounds for my dislike. Should I add "IMO" while saying they lack integrity and such all the time? These are my views, simple as that.
