@Andrea:- I really like the sound of Antena White Opera. Your excellent guide to Italian Prog-Rock is the best guide to a specific genre of music that I've ever seen. Thumbs Up  By comparison, it makes my brief A-Z guide to Japanese Psychedelic Rock pale into insignificance. Smile

One of my favourite Italian Prog-Rock bands is Jacula, who later changed their name to Antonius Rex.

Hi,

Space Pirate Radio, has been playing a new PFM, and also 2 Banco albums, one of which is live without Giacomo, and it sounds fantastic musically, although my very first time listening to it, the voice of the singer is a little too much on the rock'n'roll side, instead of Giacomo's more classical use of his voice.

There is one other band in there which I am not sure which one it is. I want to listen to these albums listed recently to see if I recognize anything.

FROM PIEMONTE...

Braam Van Der Stock, from Sangano...

According to the official website, Braam Van Der Stock is not a rock band but a project, an experience that originates from the need to communicate, to launch messages, to express thoughts and moods through music. The name refers to one of the three prisoners of war who managed to break free from Stalag Luft III camp during World War II, in what is today remembered as the Great Escape, and the aim of the musicians is to pay tribute to this endeavour carried out with rudimentary and unusual means. The names of the artists involved in this project, based in a small town near Turin called Sangano, are not revealed in the booklet nor on the official website where they explain that as in the case of the Great Escape in which the tunnel to freedom was hidden under the name Harry, perhaps also the name "Braam Van Der Stock" hides something different… As for the music, for their self-released debut album, entitled Messa su strada (Mass on the road) they chose to interpret in a prog rock key the musical form of the Missa following the Catholic liturgical canons...

FROM LOMBARDIA...

A Lifelong Journey is the brainchild of Mauro Mugiati (vocals, keyboards, bass, acoustic guitars) and Brian Belloni (electric and acoustic guitars, lap steel guitar, drums), two talented musicians from Pavia both members of Beggar’s Farm, one of the best known Italian Jethro Tull’s tribute bands. In 2019 the two young multi-instrumentalists felt the need to express their own skills as composers and song-writers and self-released an interesting eponymous debut album where they blended vintage and modern sounds, inspired by historic bands from the seventies such as Genesis, Yes or Procol Harum but also by the likes of Spock’s Beard or Steven Wilson

"A Lifelong Journey" is their first self titled release, a 51 minutes long concept album that combines Hammond organ, acoustic piano and Mellotron with modern synthesizers, brilliant guitars and punchy drums, achieving a fresh different sound where the atmosphere from the golden era of prog meets nowadays innovations... (quote from their official website)

You can listen to the complete album here:

FROM LAZIO...

The Piano Room is the brainchild of Roman keyboardist and composer Francesco Gazzara who wrote, arranged, performed and produced all the tracks of 2084, his fourth album so far. The album was released in 2019 on the independent label Irma Records and features a long instrumental suite divided into four parts (“Prologue 2084”, “2084 Part 1”, “2084 Part 2” and “Epilogue 2084”) that, according to the liner notes, was inspired by two novels: George Orwell’s 1984 and Boualem Sansal’s 2084: The End Of The World, both dealing with dystopian stories set in an imaginary future...

Musically, always according to the liner notes, this work is also conceived as a tribute to Anthony Phillips’ album 1984 and its electronic experiments... The pace is calm and relaxed despite the subject matter but while some passages might sound a bit tedious due to the drum machines and the lack of a real, pulsing rhythm section, the songwriting is excellent and it can be wholly appreciated by listening to the three bonus tracks containing the piano solo versions of three parts of the suite...
