Hey all -- new to the messageboard here.

I was just wondering if anyone had heard of this band.  Big Wreck is (was, actually...  the band is no more (lead singer now has a new band, Thornley, which has somewhat shunned BW's prog roots save for one or two songs on their album in order to reach a wider audience... the band still does old BW songs at shows though)) a prog-rock band out of Boston (Zeppelin, Pink Floyd are some inspirations) with a lead vocalist and guitarist (Ian Thornley) who is extremely talented.

They released two amazing records in 1997 and 2001 called In Loving Memory Of... and The Pleasure and the Greed.   Check them out... some songs to sample: Overemphasizing, Undersold, The Oaf, Ladylike, Knee Deep, and Blown Wide Open.

I used to like them a few years back...they aint too bad. The new band :Thornley;  is preatty boring and is just an excuse to nurse Ian's broken ego... He's also an overrated guitarist and a Chris Cornell wannabe....dont check em out, but Big Wreck is worth a listen.
something pretentious

Harsh words, dude.  I met the guy at one of their shows and he's pretty damn humble -- and I think he deserves every bit of the praise that he gets (or, rather, doesn't get) for his guitar skills.  He does have the same style (and look, heh) as Cornell, but that's no reason to knock him as a wannabe.  The new band is most certainly worth a listen (the bass player is formerly of the Watchmen and the drummer is from Edwin & the Pressure -- and he's also become my favorite drummer after seeing his drum solos), but isn't the same as BW save for a couple of tracks (check out The Lies That I Believe), as I already stated.  But I definitely suggest catching them live if you get a chance -- truly an awesome experience.
