Topic: Prog Rock and Hair Posted: June 17 2005 at 13:51 |
Why does most of the old-school progrockers have long hair?
Is there a connection between the long hair of metalers and progers?
Or is it just a typical classic rock phenomenon that has been kept in Metal and Prog?
How long is your hair ?
Mine is about 20 centimeters long...

I have longish hair (20cm) at present, to be cut relatively short when I can be bothered. Historically in prog it surely comes from the hippie look.

My hair is 3/8 of an inch long.
I like it short.
Or maybe it's because I tried growing my hair out and it really didn't work out....

Same here. Every few years I get it in my head to grow my hair long, and every time I get past about 3 inches I can't stand how frizzy/poofy/curly it gets and I go back to my regular short-cut. Plus now my hairline is receding faster than the arctic glaciers, so I don't want to look like Steve Howe.

I used to like my hair short, and then one day I decided to grow it out. Now I rarely even get haircuts...right now it's about 5.5 to 6 inches long.

Ditto. If I could be bothered to measure my hair then I could be bothered to get it cut.

long hair is starting to come back, i think its just a phase thing, once someone thinks its cool, then others do it, and that attracts more, and then more, and more ect.
I think at that time period everyone liked it, so no matter what music you played, your hair was typically long. Rock is said to be kind of rebellious too and so is long hair, i guess.

proggers are also very skinny. rfloyd and yes looked skinny back in the day. Cedric and omar from the mars volta are incredibly skinny. I am also very skinny. Metropolis refers to me as skinny c**t cos i only weigh 8 stone yet i am a lanky 6 foot
