Hi,
No favorites ... I would end up feeling guilty that I did not mention one or another! There is, and was, a lot of great music, and it is impossible for me to select one over the other!
|
|
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

hmm..
69 woo hoo.. and why not go with the greatest of the great. Stones - Let It Bleed 70 - See it was mentioned so kudos.. George - All Things Must Pass (even if Apple Jams complete sucks.. the first 3 sides are 10 star stuff.. so that averages 7.5.. which smokes pretty much anything else from the year) 71- pfff.. The Allmans - At Fillmore East.. rock's single greatest live recording.. and only topped by J.B's Apollo for greatest live recording period. 72 - Manassas - S/T a sprawling masterpiece of Americana 73 - Yes - TFTO - the pinnacle of prog rock.. a short climb up from its beginning.. and god DAMN what a long roll downhill afterwards into self parody for the genre .. in fact.. heard there was a new Wobbler album coming. so I guess that bitch is still rolling haha 74 - Gram Parsons - Grievous Angel. The masterpiece of a true musical legend and one of the most influential musicians of the last half century. 75 - Willie Nelson - Red Headed Stranger.. the album that launched a legend.. and forever changed a genre. The first progressive country album and what a masterpiece it is 76 - David Bowie - Station to Station.. where a legend.. become even more and becomes an icon. 77 - Steely Dan - Aja easy.. musical lyrical and studio perfection all wrapped into one...

well that's a loaded question.. depends of course on what you mean by 'symphonic'. Quite a few of the groups we have here listed as symphonic simply.. umm.. weren't ![]() the best symphonic band IMO.. Renaissance.. hands down...

1975 was such a great year. "Clearlight Symphony", "Warrior on the Edge
of Time", "Rubycon", "Ricochet", "Epsilon in Malaysian Pale", "Shamal",
"Wish You Were Here", "Free Hand", "The Snow Goose", "One Size Fits
All", "Sheherazade and other Stories", "Nightingales and Bombers",
"Inventions for Electric Guitar", "Recycled", "The Rotter's Club",
"Voyage of the Acolyte", "Fish Rising", "Another Green World", "Fish Out
of Water", "Godbluff"... The list just goes on and on.

Indeed. Most difficult job chosing one from this year, followed by 1972, 1971, 1974.

just a few more great albums from 1975, all in our collection, but by no
means all prog: "Physical Graffiti", "A Night at the Opera", "Zuma",
"Blues for Allah", "Siren", "Hair of the Dog", "Nuthin' Fancy",
"Stampede", "Red Octopus", "Blow by Blow", "Landed" (an underrated
album)... and more and more and more

The years 1973 to 1975 have such a plethora of excellent music, as you
already have mentioned so many, that I only like to add the fabulous
Quadrophenia (The Who, 1973) which had a great impact on me at the time (and I continue to fully enjoy up to this day)

This will be fun
1969: Court of The Crimson King - My second favorite album ever, easy 1970: Trespass - I listened to H to the He for the first time so maybe it could change but I personally love this album start to finish. 1971: Nursery Cryme - this ones tough, fragile, meddle and pawn hearts are all quite close but this is my favorite. again like trespass, great from start to finish, just a little better ;) 1972: Foxtrot: No questions asked, my favorite album of all time. Sorry close to the edge. 1973: Camel: Ok so I can admit, Dark side of the moon and selling england are better albums, but right now I would def reach for this album first, there's quite a charm and its very solid throughout, if it was "best" album for each year, Dark Side Wins. 1974: Relayer: Shoutout to of course Red and Mirage (and mini shoutout to Kansas's debut) another close one but Relayer is the one for me right now. If it was "best" it would be red. 1975: Wish You Were Here: Godbluff close second, but this album is just transcending. Incredible. 1976: Moonmadness: again this was an easy choice for me, my 3rd favorite album. Trick of the Tail second. Leftoverture 3rd 1977: Animals: ye this one was easy, another floyd masterpiece and my favorite by them.
