And to give a sense of hopelessness you need the mixolydian mode.
Listen to Yes - fly from here. This is the reverse of the lydian mode. As well as Kamelot's anthem. This is the key to making you want to cry. with the phrygian mode, you have the installment of anger and outrage more so. This is different than the emotional reaction you get from the mixolydian. As the one used in fly from here by Yes. It is also equally beautiful to the lydian sibling but in a more hopeless way.
