1972 I think Alice Cooper (band) had hit their stride as a band,  At this time they were firing on all cylinders.  While I more prefer the two albums that preceded and followed "Schools Out" ( Killer (1971) & Billion Dollar Babies (1973)),  S.O. showed that they worked well together.

Not unfair at all as it isn't a competition between bands, it is simply for you to pick your favourite of these from 1972. It is all about "the vibe of  the year"   BUT don't worry, the poll you are looking for is around the corner. I've just had trouble posting it, I'm on my thrid attempt now  ;)

Alice Cooper. School's Out was one, if not the first, hard rock albums I heard. So while I overall prefer Machine Head from this group, went with Cooper for sentimental reasons...

BOC. Could've been Vol4 as it has my favourite Sabbath number on. Machine Head is awesome and never rate a song based on what other people do with it. It's not the fault of the song or band. Heep's wonderful, as is Captain Beyond. What were their record company doing not trying to promote such an ideal (for the times) band?

The one I never seem to get is Cooper. Just sounds so basic to me. I appreciate the pop culture appeal - certainly worked when applied to Ozzy Osbourne but... slightly more dull with uninteresting guitars propping things up. Best bit is the vocal I suppose. Must've missed out on something...

it's a 1972 poll, none of the ones you mention are from that year.

It's a real gem. I was completely unaware of Captain Beyond until I read an interview with Doug Pinnick of Kings X and he mentioned loving this record. I went right out and found a copy. I wasn't disappointed. Too bad the subsequent efforts by the band weren't as good.

From the list I also really like Argus, and Cream (hard not to like any Cream). 

I've never been able to get into Uriah Heep and Deep Purple beyond a few songs. And BOC is a band that I want to love but other than a handful of songs, don't. I keep trying though.

I do need to revisit Black Sabbath Vol 4 though. Thin Lizzy is another one I need to dig into. Never really had any use for Alice Cooper but seeing as how School's Out has six votes maybe I should check it out. I do enjoy Halo of Flies off the Killer album. The prog dabblings of Alice Cooper seem much more interesting to me than the strait forward rock stuff.

Yea, sorry about that man. But I included them in the Heavy Third poll. Smile I just didn't have them in mind as they were never a band I listened to and still don't Smile
