Many people claim that Carter was ineffectual, perhaps he was too busy watching movies. I happen to respect him very much.
I think that his music interests would be more pertinent to his being a member of this site than the films he watched when sitting as President of the United States. That said, I'd like more film buffs and would appreciate his presence at this site. An eclectic list, but no Caligula? ;) Well, at least there is Hardcore, Midnight Cowboy (great film), and the provocatively titled Horatio Hornblower (no, sounds more like something that Bill Clinton would like) and Ray's Erection (oh wait, misread it, its Resurrection). I like seeing The Magic Christian in the list (great black comedy), and wonder if his faith played a factor in his choosing that title. I'm sure it played a part in his watching Jesus. There are many great films in that list, quite a few of my favourites, and he watched the film that inspired my user name. It would be interesting if he we had a list for all of the film watching US Presidents such as Donald Trump with "Singing in the Golden Rain", George W. Bush with the animated "My Pet Goat" and Nixon with 1962's "Advise & Consent". If they haven't already done it, I'd like a film about corrupt rabbits called "Watergate Down". |

that is the narrative and a correct one... the reasons why he was are perhaps less understood and once one does... leads one to respect him all the more.

I find it sad that he has been so maligned. He's a very good man, unlike someone else who I shouldn't name in this post but rhymes with rump, plump, and dump, and I'm not thinking of Crump. Okay, it's a Flump. ![]() Edited by Logan - December 31 2018 at 09:42 |

funny you mention he who hath no name, nor heart, nor empathy, nor service to anyone but himself and his brand name for I was going to myself.
If I had the time I would compare them for there are very strong comparisons between the two.. the differences of course... are so numerous they are a waste of time to post. One campaigned as an outsider yet once President merely became President of a fraction of this country and spent his term trying to advance an agenda favored by a vocal passionate minority of this country.. the other.. ran as a mainstream party candidate yet once President waged war on both parties.. and made many enemies and got little done and had his reputation trashed. very interesting parallels between the two actually in how they sort of did things their way and to hell with making friends or playing politics and swapping spit in the shower to ease getting things done.

^ That's interesting. The way I look at Carter is that while he didn't end up really being an effective President (and the blame only partially rests on his shoulders for that -- how much is debatable -- okay, maybe a lot due to his position and temperament perhaps), he has been a most excellent ex-President (a better ex-President than President). Like Trump he has certainly had some "issues". I couldn't imagine Trump as a good man post Presidency (as he wasn't before it nor has been during it).

I loved Carter's Crisis Of Confidence speech. Unfortunately dropping truth bombs on the electorate doesn't really work in a democracy and an effective salesman President promptly replaced him at the first opportunity.

Yes, I can assure you Dumpster isn't going to build homes for the underprivileged when he leaves/is removed from office. That being said, I can't imagine anyone with a full-time job, even part-time, let alone leader of a nation, spending that many hours watching movies. |

The crazy thing is Jimmy Carter is still building houses in his mid-90s. Must be the great taste :)
