Just started the new Ian Rankin 'Rebus' novel - 'In a House of Lies'. However, I'll be reading 'Rory Gallagher - The Man Behind the Guitar' by Julian Vignoles, at the same time.

I have high expectations of both from what I've read so far....

^Darn....I thought that was going to be about the tv show...one of my favorites.;)
But it does look interesting anyway. I have read several books by Strieber over the years....both fiction and non fiction.

This rich playboy was actually one of the most grounded and down to earth people imaginable. He died testing a racecar shortly after writing this book, in 1974. Great read.

Don't know if these have been mentioned, this is a very long thread to read individually (cuts into my book reading time Smile)....But agree with a lot of these (Dune, Arthur C Clark, Harry Potter and probably lots more that I missed in the many pages herein).  Crazy avid reader, here, so this is nothing representative of all that I've read, but in more of the genre that many here seem to gravitate to, and so would be interested for recommendations.....

Here are a trio of my favourites to recommend to others:

Jerusalem by Alan Moore (not for the faint of heart, at about 1300 pages, but think of it as a trilogy) 
The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell
Little, Big by John Crowley

He's just a terrific writer.   This one tries to make both scientific and spiritual sense of what people are really experiencing when they perceive something as 'supernatural'.

Roughly halfway through Mein Kampf. Part I was actually a fairly engaging combination of solid political analysis (with occasional leaps in logic) and compelling biographical accounts illuminating the motivations of the protagonist. Especially the critique of the parliamentary system was spot-on. The narrative style was perhaps a bit long-winded at parts, but nowhere near as dull as some reviewers claim. Part II however seems largely theoretical and consequently less interesting so far.

Not quite half-way yet but, indeed, an interesting read.  It has some D and D reenactments that are a joy to recall.  A boy with a great imagination born of the pulp fiction his dad brought home to him.

Don't know if you played David, but the original Gygax modules from the late 70s were the best....the ones that had his personality and the somewhat less flashy, muted color drawings.  The later ones with the highly professional, flashy art just didn't have that same "basement" feel I loved. 

I would love to play again, but I'm just too afraid to take on the massive timesuck it entails if you catch the bug.
