Ok. I know I'm going to generate some debate around here because some of you might consider the albums on the list not quite fitting the definition of art rock and/or progressive pop.

Anyway, it's a very eclectic list. You can pick your favourite out of it or suggest another if you wish to, with the "other" option.

^Never even thought about them.

"On Land And In The Sea" would have been a nice choice

Best ones (for me) are King Crimson, Rush and ELPowell.

Now, I was going to vote for Rush, because Signals is one of my favorite Rush albums and I've logged countless hours playing it, but I decided to vote for ELPowell because 1) it's underrated, and 2) it will no doubt get very few votes with competition like that.

They might be the whipping boys for many on this forum, but that Asia debut is pure prog-pop at its best! A very good list though... Signals by Rush is a very good album, but a notch below what came before, when they on another level. Elsewhere, Duke was the sound of a band shedding those last vestiges of prog before their full dive into pop - but it had its moments (although the tour was better!) Melt wasn't too shabby either..... (continued page 76...)

Almost impossible to vote for one, as this poll contains some huge personal favourites. Discipline, Remain in Light and Hounds of Love will probably get many votes, so I will go for a somewhat lower-profile album - Japan's marvellous Tin Drum.

Pretty hard choice given that there's literally a full decade between some of them - Duke and Seeds of Love for example.  It says at the top I can't vote in this poll (what's with this clunky website...?)  I'll go for Seeds of Love though  for sheer songwriting and production quality.

Just yesterday I was listening to "Famous Last Words" and thinking to myself how great the production for "Seeds Of Love" is. It's an amazing album.

P.s.: I think you need to have some more posts in the website before you can vote (the required minimum is between 40/50 or something like that)

Thanks for that info. I'm still struggling to get my head around a lot of aspects on this site which seem to be set up to work against you - that capthca thing for example which has just foiled me again and made me write this reply out for a second attempt (I'll copy it to my clipboard before posting in case it happens again.,.

I'll go with one of the underdogs that won't get many votes on this site.

I'm between "Love Over Gold" and "The Seeds Of Love".

I'm giving the edge to Dire Straits for an almost perfect album ("Industrial Disease" kinda ruins the mood a little, but it's a hell of a record anyway).

Other favourites of mine which I believe will have some votes are: Discipline, Remain In Light, Spirit Of Eden (objectively, my favourite among the 24),Melt, Hounds Of Love and Secrets Of The Beehive (this last one right up there with Spirit Of Eden)

I have to say I really appreciated the inclusion of Grace Jones' Nightclubbing. Though I would not call myself a fan of hers, I have always had a lot of time for that album. And Frankie Goes to Hollywood's Welcome to the Pleasuredome is a masterpiece Heart.

That being said, when confronted with a list such as this, I wonder how anyone can still say that the Eighties were a bad time for music. So much great stuff was released in that decade! I think The Stranglers, Duran Duran and Siouxsie and the Banshees would also deserve a mention.
