Love In A Silent Way -- that was the album that got me into Miles Davis.
Today I'd say: Big Fun as favourite (Get Up With It being another particular favourite), and I actually haven't listened to any of his album in full past Water Babies. Of his pre "electric Miles" period, I really like Sketches of Spain. Some Cs: Can: Soundtracks (others would work too) - Out Of Reach (haven't heard all their albums) Comus: First Utterance - Out of the Coma (yep, I somewhat prefer To Keep From Crying to Out of the Coma though I love "The Sacrifice", really, either not First Utterance I could list). Cos: Viva Boma - Swiß Chalet Clivage: Mixtus Orbis (love the debut about equally) - Kassiopee (still like it) Codona: Codona 3 - Codona 2 (love all three, though) Cardiacs: A Little Man and a House and the Whole World Window - Toy World Edited by Logan - August 10 2018 at 14:33 |

The trouble is finding any band of which I'm such a devotee, that I actually bought, listened to and can remember their worst album.

In my case there are many bands and artists I like that made very few albums, and while I may love all of them, I may still have a favourite and least favourite (though that might change on a daily or even a hourly basis). For instance, Dzyan has three studio albums, and I would choose Electric Silence as my favourite (I don't like using the terms best and worst generally) and the debut is slightly my least favourite, but I like all three very much. Three is not that much to remember, and various others have but two albums, which is even less to remember. In the case of Dom and Dun, they made only one album each, so they are simultaneously my favourite and least favourite albums by the bands (haha). There have only been a few bands or artists with quite large discographies where I've bothered to collect all of the studio albums. I am enough of an admirer of certain bands, film directors, and novelists to try to seek out all of their works when they made quite a few, including the works that are not generally well-regarded. In such cases, even the "missteps" can be interesting to me. |

why include Phil Collins? It's not like he did prog as a solo artist. Moving Pictures worst Rush album? Really? (LOL) I agree with the rest, I'd put Invisible Touch or Abacab as worst/least favorite Genesis album. I like a few songs on each. :)

For some reason I've always just viewed Moving Pictures as an Arena-Rock album disguised as progressive rock and I just think that so much of their material is way stronger than it, so I put it as their worst album just because I really can't stand almost any track on that album. However, Limelight is one of the best Rush songs I've ever heard.

Funny, I see Limelight as one of their weaker tracks and certainly the weakest on Moving Pictures (although it has one of Alex's more expressive solos). Hard to imagine anything more prog than the likes of YYZ or The Camera Eye. And YYZ is one of the greatest expositions of musical composition and virtuosity ever laid down on vinyl. While I really love Roll The Bones myself, if I was going to levy charges of being mainstream or relatively uninspired against any Rush album, that'd probably be it. Or Hold Your Fire or the pre-Peart debut. I can see not putting Moving Pictures at the top of the heap, but in a catalog that contains the likes of Presto, Grace Under Pressure, and Counterparts, it's hard to see putting it at the very bottom.
