^No. DSoTM has never been overrated, although it hasnīt been a long time my favourite Floyd-album. Hell, it just took so much forward recording technology, also I think itīs one of the predecessors of ambient and electromusic. Can you say any album that is like that what itīs made before it?
About We Canīt Dance it may be little underrated. I think itīs much better than Invisible Touch. But I wouldnīt say it progalbum, although it has more prog than s/t or Invisible.

Interesting perspective, and one I hold almost a diametrical opinion of. Prog or not, I prefer Invisible Touch to We Can't Dance.
I don't care for DSoTM due to the tech advances. They are there, no denying. It's the songs themselves that don't gel with me.

^Really I think this started to get very boring. If someone is not liking some album, he started a thread "is this album overrated?" I could start tens of threads of albums that I donīt like but are commonly very respected, but I really donīt want to waste my time.

Also, about songs, I think Breathe, Time, Money, Us & Them, Brain Damage and even Eclipse are much better songs than the most in WYWH, only Welcome to Machine rises into same quality as those DSoTM-songs. Just my opinion.

That's kind of the point of a discussion forum, dude. IDK what to tell you...

...Then you keep talking after you say you're done .
We clearly disagree on this particular topic. No harm no foul. Carry on.

Like a lot also a Great Gig In the Sky. Also, if you need another perspective to DSoTM, I really recommend the early live recording of it, there are totally different versions of On the Run and Great Gig.

How can it be underrated when it's in the top 10 most highly rated prog albums here? Personally i find it overrated and quite boring to be honest. I'm running to avoid all the tomatoes now

I've always thought Foxtrot was the peak for Genesis, but I admit that I am peculiarly biased toward their early albums, and consider their classic period to be Trespass - Foxtrot. Selling England is the one Gabriel era album that just never engaged me. I listened to it again last week to test this.

ummm.. this progger sure as hell does not. Important.. in what way... they still played county fairs and pubs after they did the album.. didn't raise them to 2nd division.. nor made any impact in the prog world. We can't even blame the album for the Neo that was to come.. those albums came later...
so.. an honest question.. other than fanboys loving it today.. what makes it so important. |
You're probably right historically, Micky. Genesis' impact (more specifically, Foxtrot's impact) is more after the fact. However, I'm genuinely curious. What would you say about Van Der Graaf Generator who played most of the same venues on the same ticket?

I don't know why I like all the other songs on the album except Supper's Ready, I just can't seem to get into it.

I love Supper's Ready, but believe the other songs don't get the props they deserve.
Can and the Utility Coastliners is absolutely brilliant!
