The near hit neo proggers have been tearing it with last few albums and have scored universal acclaim with Seas Of Change, their latest album. Is it time to give these lasting survivors they appreciation they deserve?

it's neo-prog, many will not touch this subgenre with an extremely long pole.
Galahad is one of the good neo bands, worth checking out!

I thought Battlescars was pretty weak.
Beyond The Realms Of Euphoria was much better, though I’m not a massive fan of them.

Perhaps not. Poor Stu and company. Even solid reviews won't get them over the hurdle.

Their last, Seas Of Change, features a true 42 minute long prog song. Something that could never be done on vinyl! I'd go with that.

I enjoyed 'Empires Never Last' but Galahad have always been on the edge of my neo-prog radar (I've heard more Jadis, Pallas, Pendragon, Arena etc.) Time to give them another listen - given your recommendation of the new album, Steve!

Kind of a "stereotypical" name for a prog band... conjures up images of kings, knights, horses, unicorns, fairies, etc.
I should listen to them first, but PA contributors don't sound impressed.

LOL what's that supposed to mean? I'm not a teen and I enjoyed Battlescars. In your first post in this thread you said Battlescars was weak. So the album is weak if you are an adult and cool if you are a teenager??

^ Exactly !! There’s just something ‘juvenile’ I hear in Battlescars.
Beyond The Realms fared much better but I don’t have any desire to acquire more albums from Galahad.

Not impressed until the last 2-3 album reviews. I was never a fan of the band but I decided to give them a second chance based on what I've read. It's still neo prog, which will not sway many, but very good neo, IMHO.

Not familiar with Galahad....I'll give it a listen.
So what is all the hate for 'neo-prog' all about? To me most of it could easily fit into the symphonic prog area (or crossover) anyway which is liked by most.

I'm afraid that people like me are to blame as we viewed neo as too derivative and not too exciting. I once heard neo referred to as Copycat Prog!

I actually quite liked Battlescars. It's not as proggy in many ways but has more of a direct pipeline into heavy grooves. Seems to be a divider for fans but works for me :)

^ I actually enjoy their later day work more than what they did in the 90s. Try any post 2000 album if you want, they are really good, obviously if you enjoy neo-prog.
