Not really prog but jazz, though some of her albums are on the borderline to jazz-rock: Barbara Dennerllein (modified Hammond B-3 including bass pedals).
Here two albums of her that I consider to be on the borderline to jazz-rock: To really appreciate her though one has to see her play, like in this video: One of her most prominent fans was the late Keith Emerson, by the way. Edited by BaldFriede - February 16 2018 at 08:57 |

She also had her own band Paraphernalia, in which her husband played drums. I saw Paraphernalia in the late 80s at the Subway, a jazz-club in Cologne, Germany. |

Yeah, she seems to be primarily jazz. She's not on PA, listed only as jazz on RYM and not listed as any sort of fusion on JMA so thanks for the suggestion but don't want to open the pure jazz doors. I will check her out though :)

Her album "Outhipped", one of the two albums I mentioned, is listed as fusion, jazz-rock at DiscCogs: https://www.discogs.com/Barbara-Dennerlein-Outhipped/release/473363 While she primarily is a jazz artist her musical spectrum is very wide and reaches from solo appearances on church organs to performances with symphony orchestra. And some of her albums (the two mentioned by me and also "That's Me") fall into jazz-rock / fusion. A track like this one is definitely on the rock side: Edited by BaldFriede - February 16 2018 at 12:20 |

Hmmm. Not really convinced. That was definately on the rock side but not very progressive. It was basically the blues with some psychedelic organ

I am just listening to Gentle Knife from Norway. They have a few female performers, too:
Astraea Antal / flute, winds and visuals and on their latest release also Veronika Hørven Jensen / vocals Charlotte Valstad Nielsen / sax |

One Italian prog band, Greenwall is not on the list. There is Michela Botti in lead vocals since 2005. Also in 1999 Giorgia Facioni, Christiana D`Amico & Tiziana Brasile in vocals.

As I said, she is very versatile, and isn't versatility one of the main characteristics of prog? I think you will agree that this one is jazz-rock/fusion: Anyway, she is one of the greatest instrumentalists out there; you have to watch her simultaneous work on pedals and keys. Seeing is believing! Edited by BaldFriede - February 18 2018 at 03:52 |
