One would hope (though I admit there isn't any evidence yet) that cooler heads at the Pentagon might have a stopgap measure in case Trump gives the nuclear order. Something similar to what James Schlesinger had in place during the last days of the Nixon Administration in which military commanders would confirm with Schlesinger or Kissinger before executing such an order.

This week, the Institiute of Atomic Scientists made the decision to move the hands on the symbolic Doomsday Clock to just two minutes to midnight.

This, they say reflects the ongoing trend for global instability with the mounting risk of nuclear war at the core of their decision making.

IOAT - Doomsday Clock Current time

The time had been set to 2.5 mins to midnight last year, and as there had been no improvment to the global situation, the decision was taken to change the time again.

The institute, althogh respected will no doubt be accused of being Trump hating 'libtards' although of course had they made these decisions under Obama, the right would be singing their praises and calling them prophets.

We are now closer to 'Doomsday' (whatever that may look like) than at any other time since about 1953, according to the institute.
