I mean when you text someone on your phone, do you swipe, use the 'two thumb method', or voice input? I typically start out swiping, then if I'm going back to correct a lot of mistakes I switch to two thumbs. I've done the voice thing a few times, but it's hard(for me) to get the punctuation straight in my mind.. you have to tell it what punctuation to use as you're talking.

So just curious what method/s people on here usually use.

What is swipe?
I just use my right index finger. I feel my thumbs are too big and not as exact.

It is slow, there are mistakes to fix, and I feel I have to get it right (I teach English).
I much prefer to actually talk on the phone for an exchange of any real length, and then you also get intimacy and tone of voice.

Even posting here on my IPhone (my computer is down) is laborious!

That explains it. I think IPhones don't have swipe. I have an old galaxy note 4(yeah I'm cheap lol). But it has swipe. It makes it so you can basically 'swipe' your finger across the keyboard and it picks up the letters that make the most sense for what you're probably trying to say. It's not perfect, but it is faster(for me) than two thumbs. But it makes more mistakes, so there's the rub. If I'm texting something short then I pretty much always swipe. If it's long then I kind of do a little of both(really depends).

I think if you practiced the two thumb method you could get good at it. But I hear you, actually TALKING on the phone is best for long conversations lol. No doubt. And yeah, using index finger(one key at a time) would be laborious! I would really try two thumbs, or tap the microphone and then dictate what you want to type(I'm pretty sure IPhone has that).

Here's Peter, typing one letter at a time on his phone, and he's the only one to give a straight answer so far lol.

Preferably use my fingers but I've been known to use my nose when wearing gloves. I use the old two-finger alphabet style and write words.

Thanks for the information and advice, Yesesis.
Maybe I'll try the dictation thing. I can think punctuation; heck, I teach it!

Swiping sounds like a lot of trouble. This thing always suggests three words based on what I just wrote, or the first letter or two of my current word. It can be helpful (it completed most of this post). Does your phone do that?

There is an app for Swipe, but it costs $.99, I think.

I don't think it's a good idea to not have a cell phone at all. What if your car stalls, or you need a new battery, or you get in an accident, or whatever. I know, a tough guy like you(even if badly hurt in the accident) will drag yourself to the nearest payphone.. oh wait

Yes, but when swiping it goes too fast and so can't really use it. It works well with the two thumbs method though and makes that go faster, which I appreciate.

Yeah I would definitely try the dictation deal. When your keyboard comes up just look for the microphone button, press it, and then pretend you're  dictating the message to an assistant or something(to type it for you).

Sorry, just my dose of cynicism - an odd question to ask on such a site, but I’m just a douche.....

Coincidentally, I text using the douche method.
