(self portrait) Eugene Henri Paul Gauguin (1848 – 1903) French post-Impressionist artist. Unappreciated during his life, Gauguin is now recognized as having been groundbreaking and influential in his experimental use of color and Synthetist style quite distinct from Impressionism. Rufus Guinchard (1899-1990) One from my island home: Franco-Newfoundland traditional fiddler par excellence. Like his contemporary, fellow fiddler Emile Benoit, Rufus was influential on a generation who revived, revitalized, and updated Newfoundland trad and folk. I saw him live once when I was a young man, and I swear that the charismatic old gent was grinning at me the whole time as I leaned against a post in the pub, and got completely into the infectious, joyful music. Happy memories! Monsieur Guinchard increased the joy factor in his corner of the world--would that the same could be said of more of us! Edited by Peter - January 16 2018 at 07:38 |

Skipping Y and Z. Now AH: Alfred Hitchcock, Alice Hoffman, Arthur Hiller... Annie Hall would be nice, being both a female and a fictitious character (both minorities here). But I choose:Angela Hewitt (b. 1958), Canadian classical pianist, best known for her Bach interpretations.

David Hume (1711 - 1776) Scottish philosopher, historian, economist, essayist, and guy who apparently thought that a toilet lid cover made for a bitchin hat. He was sadly mistaken. Edited by Peter - January 20 2018 at 08:17 |
